On Sadism and Hunger

Neuro would not call himself a sadist.

A sadist is defined as one who takes pleasure in the suffering of others, which Neuro does not. He takes pleasure in consuming puzzles. If a human interferes with his meal they will be punished, but that does not mean that Neuro enjoys the act of punishing itself. He is merely mourning the loss of his meal and sharing with the interloper a partial taste of the soul deep hunger he suffers from.

Yako would not call Neuro a sadist.

A monster, yes; a demon, yes. But Yako believes that a sadist is a human who enjoys the torment of other humans, and that doesn't fit Neuro. Besides, the only time Yako ever really feels anything from Neuro is when a puzzle is involved. Outside of that, he like a dark void, emotionally. Yako thinks that this is probably what scares her most about Neuro. She has decided that humans are easy to read emotionally, and can be relied upon to react in certain ways due to those emotions. But Neuro doesn't feel like anything unless he's feeding, in which case he feels like the embodiment of contentment, with just a slight tang of disappoint at not having found the 'Ultimate Mystery'.

The best term Yako can think to refer to Neuro is a gourmet, and she supposes that in that respect they share at least one thing in common.

SnM: British Lit seems to be a very creative place for me, either that or it's really boring. To clear up some confusion for those of you who read the author's note in my other Neuro fic, yes I do believe Neuro is a sadist. However, Neuro doesn't, and we have been having constant arguments over this so I wrote his side. I have to say, I'm rather fond of Yako's point of view.
