Written for Emily's Globetrotter Drabble Competition (Canberra, Australia - write about someone planning something)
Remembrance
Myron is in the corner warming up his voice via a ritual that another singer would have found odd. Merton and Gideon are tuning their instruments, and by the stage, Heathcote, Kirley and Donaghan are strumming their guitars to a rhythm that resembles one of their earliest songs. They can hear the gathering crowd in front of the curtains, and no matter how many times they do this, it still makes them nervous.
This is a special performance, though; a once off, a remembrance performance. It has been exactly one year since the Battle at Hogwarts took place, and they are here to remind people of all the lives lost, of all the strength people showed that fateful day and the years leading up to it. Myron has written the song especially for this moment and it will be the first time they are performing it.
"You ready?" Myron does a few more warm-ups as he looks at Merton.
"As always," Merton replies with a smile. "It's just another performance, remember?"
The chanting from the other side of the curtains is becoming louder by the second, and Heathcote wanders over to them.
"On in two," he tells them, and they all nod.
"Better get ready."
There is an announcement from Filius Flitwick as he introduces them by name, much to the delight of the crowd (Myron always gets the biggest cheer). The curtains are drawn and the light is shining on their faces. This is it, their first performance in over a year.
Myron looks to Merton and he smiles as Heathcote and Kirley begin the tune they've practiced for months, both knowing what the other is thinking. This is not just for the students of Hogwarts, this is for everyone. For all those who died.
That includes Orsino and Herman – their lost band members.
