Apology

"Oh apologies, no apologies, this apology/Doesn't describe the way it feels to feel for you."-Counting Crows-"High Life"

"T'Pol, wait up!"

T'Pol turned about in the corridor and came face to face with Trip. He out of breath after having to run to catch up with her. Trip glanced about them and saw that there were no crewmembers standing around.

"I just wanted to say I was sorry," said Trip.

T'Pol didn't understand. "What is the reason for your apology?"

Tip couldn't believe T'Pol didn't know what he was apologizing for.

"You know...on the bridge..."

T'Pol didn't say anything.

"Look, I wanted to apologize for questioning and defying your orders on the bridge in front of the crew. I shouldn't have thought you'd leave the Captain behind on that planet."

T'Pol understood. "These apologizes of yours are becoming a habit. In this circumstance, no apology is necessary or required. You are not telepathic. How would you be able to know my thoughts?"

T'Pol turned to leave figuring the exchange had come to an end.

"Wait," said Trip anxiously. He almost reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her from leaving; luckily, he remembered at the last minute that Vulcans didn't like to be touched. He stopped himself in time. "Whether or not you think it is necessary, I need to apologize to you because I not only questioned your orders, I questioned your loyalty to the Captain and crew of this ship. I was wrong and I'm sorry. You need to know that."

T'Pol again didn't say anything. She pondered Trip's words.

"I wouldn't leave the Captain behind on that planet and had it been you or any other member of the crew I wouldn't have left them behind either. As you are well aware, despite being second in command, I am not a member of Starfleet, but I am a member of this crew."

T'Pol turned to leave and Trip watched her walk down the corridor until she made a turn and he could no longer see her. He was smiling. As much as he couldn't stand the Vulcans many times, T'Pol was growing on him. "Yeah, you're a part of this crew alright."
