Broken.
They were whispering again.
Huddled in the corner, the three of them were whispering again.
And God, was he sick of it.
It was always the same thing… always the same whisper… always the same hissed conversation…
'God, Meredith, what have you done? Jesus, you've broken him, Meredith!'
'Meredith, you've broken him… you've broken George!'
'I didn't mean to do it! It was just how it happened… Oh God, I broke George…'
George "Broken" O'Malley.
They thought he was broken…
Maybe he was. Who knows, maybe Meredith did break him…
He certainly felt broken – smashed to pieces as if he'd been attacked by an axe wielding maniac, stumbling in the dark, actually.
But something inside of him, told him that he wasn't quite broken yet, even if he did feel smashed to pieces.
'Don't let her win, George… Be strong.' Burke had said to him, since the minute they'd first come into each other's confidence, 'She's a woman, you're a man… be a man, George.'
'Don't let her break you, O'Malley. Be a man, and get over the ex-mistress of the pretty-boy surgeon, husband of a gynaecologist!' Alex had hissed at him, eloquently as always.
As helpful as these suggestions were, George couldn't help but feel like he was missing something… something that Sheppard seemed like he wasn't missing…
It wasn't that he was a surgeon, George was a surgeon too (well, almost).
It wasn't that he was older, because George was older than Meredith too (by a year).
It wasn't that he was already married, because… wait, maybe it was.
Stopping short in the corridor after his brisk stomp away from the three whispering women, George clapped a hand to his head in despair.
'I've fallen in love with a home-wrecking, husband-attracted harlot!' he exclaimed, with a shocked little laugh.
'Old news…' said a dark-haired doctor with a wink, as she walked past him, stopping to throw a loathing glance at Meredith, who shrunk further into the corner.
Spinning around, George raised an eyebrow, ready to ask her what her name was, but she'd already disappeared with a swish of her white lab-coat.
Staring after her with a little smile, he fumbled for his pager as it began to beep wildly, just as a tentative hand tapped his shoulder.
'George, I know you don't want to talk to me… but I'm s-'
It was Meredith.
He tuned her out.
As he walked away, he gave a scathing laugh… they were whispering again.
Sweet Jesus, he was sick of it.
'God, Meredith, what have you done? Jesus, you've broken him, Meredith!'
'Meredith, you've broken him… you've broken George!'
'I didn't mean to do it! It was just how it happened… Oh God, I broke George…'
George "Broken" O'Malley.
Maybe he was broken…
Who knows, maybe Meredith Grey did break him.
But God willing, George was going to fix himself, because that's what he was trained to do… He was a surgeon, he fixed things… If he could remove a bullet from a patient, or fix a failing kidney, surely he could mend a broken heart…
George "Broken" O'Malley, he would be no longer.
Hey guys!
My first GA fic, so tell me what you think!
I'm sorry if i've offended you with the Meredith bashing.. I dont really mean it, i do like her character, but i still think what she did to George was pretty wrong.. Poor George. haha.
Anyway, tell me what you think, and if it sucks, i'll take it down.
Much love,
Ash xx
