DREAMS

By: Infinite-Endings

He traced invisible circles on the palm of her hands. She would protest that it was Meg who had delicate ladylike fingers, ones that were made for maiden's gloves. She would fiercely point out the fact that hers was too big, too rough, but he knew from the first moment that he met her that hers was different. These were hands that would not hesitate to leave feathery light touches on his forehead when he was sick. Hers were hands that were not meant to be confined, free to pen out manuscripts and stories that would betray her for who she was.

He knew her - not as the opinionated Jo who was always so strong, so loving, so passionate. True she was free spirited but she was a woman of idealist sentiments. She had her own version of the castle in the sky. She had burdens, but she would gladly shoulder others without a moment of hesitation.

He held on to the hand in his current possession - relishing in the fact that hers molded with the contours of his own. It was so natural liked the first time he held her in his arms and danced to distant music in a near-abandon hall.

He leaned forward, slightly invading her private space, and certainly taking more allowance than propriety would allow. Taking one hand, he traced the curvature of her jawline, from her earlobe then to her chin. It could have been his imagination, but she seemed to tilt her head more into his touch. She released a barely noticeable sigh, as his fingers began his downward journey.

He cupped her neck from behind and pulled her head until he was staring down on her upturn lips.

"Teddy, what are you doing to me?"

'Teddy,' she was the first one to christen him thus. In his subconscious, that was sacred for her alone. He would always be her 'Teddy.'

They were not touching, but he could feel her drawing in quick breaths - slowly simmering against his own. His heart sped up in anticipation. He mentally outlined the curvature of her mouth.

"Jo." Her name was his only response to her question.

The hand which previously held her had found the spot just near the small of her back. With a small tug, their bodies were brought closer. Their lips just hovered within mere millimeters from each other.

"Jo," he whispered her name reverently before any space between them was eliminated.

It was a single touch, but with it, all his senses melted away. What started as gentle pressure left him insatiable. He pulled her against him more fully, in an attempt to make them more comfortable. Her mouth was warm and definitely not shy to his advances.

At some point, their eyes had closed on their own accord. He opened them only to meet her startled expression.

"Laurie?"

"Laurie?"

- -

Theodore Laurence or Laurie as he would say upon introduction, struggled to register the voice that was calling his name.

"Amy?"

"Laurie? You seem miles away. Where were you, my husband?" teased his new bride.

The last vestige of dreams left him breathless and flushed. He drew in calming breaths before reaching up to tug a loose strand of blonde hair. He hoped that the physical contact would be enough to jolt him back to reality. This was his wife, formerly Amy March.

He reached out to take the gloved hand that was closest to his own and whispered, "Dreams, my wife. Only dreams."
