Gentlemanly Conduct

"Eric, you know the only reason your ass isn't curled up into the fetal position on the couch is because I don't want to hear you whimper and sob about your back for two weeks." An angry Donna semi-yelled at a half-dressed Eric as he reached for his belt buckle. "And keep your pants on!" She said, muffled by the pillow she had covered her head with.

"Well, Donna, I'd make you sleep on the couch if I wasn't such a freaking gentleman!" He slightly squeaked as he finally yanked his belt off with a jerky flourish.

She laughed bitterly. "I'm more of a gentleman now than you've been towards me in a long time."

He flopped on the bed, landing on his side, and crossed his arms with more than a hint of petulance. "You sure weren't very gentlemanly tonight. Throwing my extremely delicious spaghetti at that guy."

"Maybe if you would have been a little less of a "gentleman" towards him, he wouldn't have tried to have sex with me on our table right in front of you!'

Eric cast his eyes down sheepishly, even though he was facing away from her. "You could have just thrown your chicken at him, instead of my pasta." He mumbled under his breath.

Donna heard, as she always did. "I thought the spaghetti got my point across better." She clicked the bedside lamp off, providing an end to the conversation.

Eric lay in the dark, not moving a muscle until Donna's breathing had slowed to a steady beat. He reached one hand behind him, feeling the space that separated them.

As quietly and gently as he could, he rolled himself over to face her, running one hand softly through her hair.

He thought the jig was up as she flipped over onto back, but after a few incoherent mumbles, she was still deeply asleep. He slid his arm under her neck, resting it above her shoulders gently. She rolled up onto her side, snuggling herself against him. "Smooth." She whispered groggily, kissing his bare chest.

He kissed her forehead tenderly, laughing silently until he too fell asleep.

And she thought he wasn't a gentleman.
