Chapter One

Christine sat in the long, sleek, black carriage after that horrible incident only an hour ago. Raoul had his head on the window and a deep, red scar was formed around his neck from the rope burn.

"Are you hungry?" Raoul asked. "No I just want to go home." Christine replied weakly. Christine felt like her heart was torn out. How dare she leave a man like him. The last look she ever saw of him depressed her. It seemed hours till Christine arrived at Meg's house. She saw Mme. Giry run out greeting them with a candle and her hair all down to her knees.

"Christine it is so good to see you. Raoul I hope you're ok." Mme. Giry exclaimed as she saw Christine basically fall out of her ride. She ran over to assist her. "Raoul go home, you need the rest. Don't worry Christine will be fine." Mme. Giry said comfortably as the carriage pulled away. "It will take some time dear, it will take some time."

THE NEXT DAY

"Ah Christine you look lovely." Raoul exclaimed as he helped Christine into the carriage.

"Raoul, why did you ask me to come to the café with you?" Christine said with a stern face. It seemed every bit of happiness was drained from her soul.

"Little Lot-"

"Don't call me that anymore. Raoul last night changed everything. I still haven't healed I want to go back."

"Lot- Christine we have much to plan for. Our wedding is in two weeks."

"Raoul No! How can you expect me to marry you in two weeks when I know I just shattered a man's heart."

"That man has no heart Christine! He tried to kill me."

"You made me go into that play. You used me as bait. You balanced my life to get a man. I could have died!"

"Christine he would have taken you away from me if we didn't catch him and we still haven't!"

"He let me go to you. You could have gotten many girls with your looks, charm, and money. His face was deformed. No one would understand him! How could you say he has no heart when he gave up someone who he loved for you! I am going home."
