Moment Of Silence
She couldn't stop it.
The world was crumbling around her and she was useless to prevent it.
Her beloved school, her beloved friends-
-her beloved partner.
Weiss was in her arms, porcelain, alabaster skin paler than the breath that failed to pass over her lips.
The school was in chaos, crumbling, shouts and screams echoing in terrifying reverberations around them as the only place Ruby'd ever felt safe enough to call home came crashing down. She couldn't see Yang or Blake, couldn't see anyone. Just Weiss.
"Weiss… Weiss!" Ruby sobbed, screaming her name as another pillar fell deafeningly. "W-Why is this happening?! What's going on?! Oh god, Weiss!"
She didn't know if it was safer to run or stay where she was, the collapsing foundation of the school howling all around her as she tried to think, tried to clear her mind from the tornado of thoughts and the panic twisting in her chest.
It'd just been a normal day in classes.
Her team had gone to the lectures like always.
And then the attack had come out of nowhere.
Ruby remembered being thrown out of her seat as the ceiling came down on top of them, dust rising and debris falling until her eyes stung and she couldn't breathe. The second she could, the only person she could see was Weiss, laying motionless on her side, crumpled like a withered flower.
And even now, the heiress refused to open her eyes, refused to show Ruby the familiar mist-blue pools that might serve to bring her an ounce of solace even in face of this disaster, thisnightmare.
She wished that was what it was. A nightmare. A bad dream. Something she'd wake up from when Yang or Summer came into her room to hold her.
But no matter how hard she tried to blink herself out of it, the horrible scene never went away.
Ruby pulled Weiss to her, desperately searching for a heartbeat, unsure of if she felt one or if it was just the shaking of the school as it crumbled around them.
"Weiss! Weiss?! Please wake up! Don't leave me, you- you can't!"
She didn't know what else to do other than scream and cry.
She bowed her head, pressing her forehead against Weiss's, feeling salty tears slipping down her cheeks and running onto her partner's.
There was a moment of silence.
Ruby unlocked her aura, trying to share it, trying to let it flow into Weiss, scrambling to transfer it and make it work, trying to find the flicker of Weiss's life force and ignite it with her own.
It was weak, but it was there, and Ruby breathed life into her as much as she could allow…
A strangled gasp heaved from Weiss's chest, passing through her pale lips. Ruby felt it, saw it, and sobbed out in relief, hugging her close.
But she needed to do something. She needed to find Yang and Blake, and her friends. She needed to find her teachers. Now that she knew Weiss was okay, Ruby could move again.
The young leader stood with the heiress in her arms, silver eyes burning now with liquid fury at whatever was behind this devastation.
Whatever or whomever had done this, destroyed her school, scared her friends, hurt Weiss-
-they were going to pay for it.
Dearly.
Holding Weiss close to her, Ruby tore off through the dilapidating school, a flurry of red petals trailing angrily behind her.
A/N: As of now, this is a stand-alone drabble, but perhaps I'll be adding more sometime. We'll see.
I full realize this probably isn't what happened in the canon, but right now, I just needed to get something out and write.
