Jellystone Chief Ranger John Smith was livid. The moment Yogi wouldn't meet his eyes he KNEW that something was wrong. It had taken some coaxing on John's part but Yogi revealed a startling revelation.
A ranger under his command was abusing Yogi in secret for the past week. That poor bear had to live in fear that Booboo would be taken from him and possibly killed if he didn't behave. At a certain time each night he'd had to meet with this ranger and let him hit him, almost to the point of unconsciousness.
This had gone on right under his nose for a full week and that just fueled his anger. Oh he wanted to tear into this sorry, pathetic…
Booboo hadn't known. The look of horror on that cub's face when he heard what was going on was etched into his mind and heart.
John had reassured them both that neither of them were going anywhere or would be harmed. Now he was going to be Yogi's voice since no one would believe a bear.
He entered the station and a few rangers looked up startled. He looked at the ones there. Each of them knew Yogi. Hell, when you first got to Jellystone chasing him was the initiation. Yogi had caught on to that when one of the recruits told him but he didn't mind. He found it kind of funny actually and would really pull out the stunts. Every one of them were just as fond of the bear as him.
Well, all except one who now stood near a window. His cold grey eyes stared at the chief ranger.
John walked over to him and met his eyes dead on. "Put your badge and hat on my desk now!" he growled.
The man stood motionless. "Why? I have done nothing to be disciplined over."
"Markus. You have been threatening and abusing a bear for a week. You threatened his cub's life."
Markus flinched. "Sir, it's just…"
"Yogi Bear is not an IT!" John roared.
The other rangers now glared at the ex-ranger.
John grabbed him by the arms and slammed him against the wall. "You made a fatal mistake. Put your badge and hat on my desk, pack your things, and leave my park! You are forever banned from Jellystone!" He let go and watched as the man obeyed his orders and go to leave.
"Don't let the door hit you on the way out Jackass!" Tom Anderson yelled angrily.
Markus slammed the door on the way out.
Tom then turned to John. "How's Yogi?"
John sighed. "Ok. Booboo's taking care of him now. I'll go back in a little bit."
Ranger Lola Myers, an older, motherly type woman wiped away a tear. "That poor boy! Oh I hope he'll be all right soon!"
John smiled at her. "He's Yogi. With a little help he'll be just fine."
Meanwhile in a cave a small cub was curled up in the arms of the bear that he knew would do anything to protect him and loved him to no end. That day, when he heard just how far Yogi was willing to go for him, Booboo finally said the words he'd been too shy to since the day Yogi took him in.
They were no longer just buddies. They were now, finally, father and son.
The End
