Summary: Logically she knows Bobby cares for her, but he is now Goren, her partner, and she isn't really one for trusting new people.
Rating: K+
Disclaimer: I do not own anything.
A/N: After seeing the new episode I had to do a short piece of Alex's reaction.
Spoilers: Purgatory
Alex was never one for trusting new people. She had been hurt one too many times by mister right to let just anyone in. Bobby was not just anyone. He was that weird new guy who was always one stop ahead but always on the same page as her. He connected with Alex in a way she never experienced before. He might not have been mister right, but he was just what she needed.
In numerous occasions when the chief or captain would go out of their way to compliment him and treat dear old Alex like his keeper he reassured hear that he needed her, that they were equal in every sense of the word. "You bring out the best in me" was his favorite.
If anyone would have asked they were best friends. If anyone would have asked she would give her life to keep him safe. In retrospect she had. Sure he saved her life, but thinking back on it she never knew who he did it for.
There was also a time with enough alcohol that she would call it love. Never sober. Sober Alex knew that love for Bobby was that of a sister. Sober Alex knew sexual thoughts of her partner came from her lousy sexual life after her late husband passed. Drunken Alex never seemed to care.
And drunken Alex is back tonight, still madly in love with Bobby. Drunken Alex convinces herself that Bobby would never hurt her that Bobby did everything he could to protect her, to protect her name. Drunken Alex changes the look in Bobby's eyes when he was given his badge and gun back into that of joy to work with her again forgetting his numerous attempts to ask the chief if he was reinstated. Drunken Alex forgets the phone calls ignored and the messages never returned. And drunken Alex convinces herself that the gun in her face was not being held by Bobby but by an undercover cop protecting his identity.
In the morning things will clear up.
Logically she knows she loves Bobby with all her heart, even if it is not romantically. Logically she knows Bobby would never hurt her, that Bobby was only protecting her and himself from a drug dealer and IBA. Logically she knows Bobby cares for her, but he is now Goren, her partner, and she isn't really one for trusting new people.
I know it was really short. I just had to write it after Purgatory aired and firgured I might as well post it.
