Prologue: Because of Leatherhead

~Headquarters~

The office was unusually noisy for a Saturday morning. People were talking about a giant monster crocodile in the sewers of New York. 'As if that were possible." Thought Fields as she walked past her busy co-workers. "How could anything that big fit a manhole properly?'

Right then she saw something that caught her eye on her friend Emily's desk. It was The New York Times with a picture of a… oh dear. She grabbed the paper and rushed through the corridors clicking her sleek black heels, her neat blonde ponytail swishing in the air. Fields quickly pressed the elevator button. She was in such a hurry that she didn't even have time to criticize the annoying guy who was always trying to flirt with her.

As soon as the elevator hit the 47th floor she got off immediately. At the end of the corridor, she pushed open the doors with an engraved plate reading 'Director of National Security – Norman Donnelley'

"Sir, we have a problem." said Fields, slightly panting from exhaustion.

"Ms. Fields, we always have a problem." Chuckled Donnelley. He didn't even look up; Donnelley was obviously too preoccupied with paperwork in front of him to notice her irritation. "This blasted pen is running out of ink."

"I assure you, this is NOT a joke." She raised her voice. "Look." Fields dropped the newspaper she was holding in front of Donnelley and grabbed the remote. She turned on the TV and the screen flicked on showing 'Grody to the Max'.

"I'm Joan Grody with a Sewer Shocker; City workers attacked by mutants?" with every word and pictures of the creature that followed, Donnelley's face became whiter and whiter. On screen a worker was being interviewed about the attack. "It was like part-man, part-reptile and all-monster. It came out of nowhere and attacked me."

"Enough! I want an immediate report on what's happening there now." Donnelley switched off the TV with a serious look. "Send out investigators. Use any agent you can. If what's out there is for real, we're into more trouble then I suspect."

"Yes sir." Fields walks out of the office leaving a frustrated Donnelley rubbing his forehead.
