Super short Jack/Kate one-shot! Enjoy... :)
He slowly approached her, watching curiously as the moonlight shone down on her form, making her already flawless skin and hair gleam in effect.
"Hey." He greeted softly and she looked up to meet his eyes, the intensity matching that of his.
"Hey." She returned with a warm yet catious smile.
"What's going on here, Kate?" He asked as he glanced around, specifically toward Locke--or whoever he was, "What did these people tell you?"
"Not much." She replied before checking that noone was within hearing distance. When that was affirmed, she leaned her body forward and said softly, "Sawyer has a plan."
"He does, huh?"
She nodded, "He says he can get us off the island."
"And how does you suppose he'll do that?"
"I don't know." She admitted, "But it's Sawyer. He's determined--he'll find a way."
He sat down on the fallen log beside her and thought for a moment, "You're right."
"I always am. It's one of my many talents." She joked. She paused for an instant before looking away from his gaze and adding sheepishly, "I missed you."
"You could've came with us. After a while, I'm sure Hurley would have--"
"No." She corrected, "I missed you--this Jack. The one I'm not afraid of. The one who thinks before he acts." She admitted before adding playfully, "The one without a beard."
He reflexively brought his hand to rub his chin, and smiled slightly, "I guess the clean cut look does suit me better, huh?"
She let out a laugh and it was as if the weight of the world was lifted off Jack's shoulders. He knew it was cliche but just hearing her angelic voice was music to his ears--he missed that, missed her, more than he cared to realize.
"Do you think we'll ever fix this?" She asked after a comfortable, pregnant pause.
He tilted his head, "What?"
"Us."
He looked out into the dark night sky and up to the stars that blanketed the blackness. He instinctively thought back to the days when he and Kate would sit underneath the stars, sometimes accompanied by Aaron, and shared kisses and two glasses of wine. He thought back to the evening they stayed up past midnight, running around like children, catching fireflies in the palm of their hands--Kate had never seen him act so carefree, and she simply loved the new side of him. He thought back to all the amazing, tranquil nights they shared, where they hadn't a care in the world save how they would possibly get up for work the next day, and then answered with the utmost faith, "Of course we will."
She nodded slowly, "I hope you're right."
