Lily, a Cinderella Story

Summary: At the Halloween Masquerade, a certain Lily Evans leaves a mask behind. What happens when her dance partner, James, finds it?

Chapter 1: Head Girl!

A scream suddenly erupted from the third bedroom to the left upstairs in the Evans household. The source of the high pitched shriek was a 17 year old redhead by the name of Lilyana (Lily) Evans. She was a shortish girl, only about 5'1 with striking almond-shaped emerald eyes. The reason the girl cried out in joy was because she had been made head girl! In her right hand was a letter that read:

Miss Evans,

I am pleased to announce you have been made head girl. You will meet head boy in the prefect's compartment at 11:10; the prefect's meeting is at 11:15. Again, congratulations on your accomplishment.

"What's wrong, Lily?" asked her mother, Rosalyn Evans, in alarm.

"Nothing," Lily replied, "except for the fact I made head girl!"

"That's terrific, honey. Come down to breakfast, okay dear?" Lily pondered upon who head boy may be, but thought better of it, so she just fed Athena, her owl, and went downstairs for breakfast. Her mother had made blueberry pancakes, her favorite. "To the new head girl!" her mother had said.

"Congratulations! Don't you think we should get her magical pet, dear?" exclaimed her father, Steve.

"Of course she should. It's a special occasion. What do you think Pet?"

"Goody two-shoes Lily made head girl at Wartyhogs or whatever her freak school's called. Good for her." Petunia spat out the words as if they were poison. "Everything's Lily this, Lily that. I'm sick of you all favoring her." With that she stormed into her room. Trust her to ruin the good spirit.

"Let's go to Diagon Alley tomorrow to get Lily's school supplies," suggested Mr. Evans. Lily agreed and went off to owl the news to her best friends, Alice Prewett, Marlene McKinnon, Katherine (Kathie) Potter, and Amelia (Amy) Bones.

Dear Alice (Marlene, Amy, Kathie).

You'll never believe this, but I made head girl!  I'm going to Diagon Alley tomorrow to get school supplies. Why don't we go together? Mum and Dad said that they were going to buy me a magical creature!

As she watched as Athena disappeared into the sky, she smiled contently. Lily would let nothing blemish her last year at Hogwarts… or so she thought.
