twenty-one flash fictions for tyzula month 2017

001. Cravings

Ty Lee sits on her bed on Kyoshi Island, listening to the thunderstorm outside. There was some odd amniotic tranquility of being indoors during a thunderstorm, listening to waves of rain pattering against the roof like an argument upstairs, whose muffled words are unintelligible but whose crackling release of built-up tension she understood perfectly.

Azula would know the word for it, because she somehow knew everything. Maybe there was not a word for it. Maybe Ty Lee just is insane and maybe Ty Lee is okay with that.

Because when she was a kid, she woke up with cravings for cookies.

And now, when she is an adult, she wakes up with cravings for a lost love.

"Are you okay?" asks her new best friend. New, not the old, the old one was gone.

The thunder crashes and the room suddenly lights up bright.

"I just hate thunderstorms," Ty Lee lies. "Lightning is so loud. It woke me up."

"Oh."

And everyone left her alone.
