I've GOT TO STOP WRITING NEW STUFF. SERIOUSLY. I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING.
But anyway. I think this is decent. :)
Title: We're On Our Way
Summary: After Annabeth commits suicide, Percy is left to deal with their newborn child and a mystery his fiance left behind that could, just maybe, change everything.
The music blasted in her ears as she lifted her arms towards the setting sun. Come and get me, she thought. I am ready.
The roar of the train was still far off, but she could hear it. It made her heart pound, made her wonder if this was right. It is. It has to be. It's the only way.
A gust of wind ruffled her Beatles T-shirt and sent goosebumps up and down her bare arms. With the wind, came a memory of newborn Margot cuddled in Percy's arms. It's over. It's gone. There'll be nothing left. Not anymore.
Her heart pounded to the rhythm of the music, and the bright light of the train up ahead revealed itself around the corner. She swallowed and summoned a weak smile. This is right.
An impossibly loud horn rang in her ears. She didn't care. Adrenaline was pounding through her body like a red-hot river. She felt alive for the first time in months. Won't be feeling so alive much longer.
She lifted her gaze from the dusty tracks to the oncoming train. She smiled. It was coming. It was almost time. This is it.
Another gust of wind, warm this time, sent dust billowing all around her. It clouded her sight of the train, which she didn't like. But she didn't care. If it was to end this way, so be it.
It was a mere hundred feet away, hurtling toward her like it was the dog and she was the food. Closer and closer it came. Faster and faster. Louder and louder. It honked, loud. So loud. Impossibly loud. The rumbling vibrated the tracks under her feet. It was coming. When? Soon.
Florence and the Machine was ringing in her ears and the earbuds were ripped from her ears as it collided.
Heat.
Pain.
Impossible pain.
A hairsbreadth away.
Reaching.
Too far.
Can't.
Can.
Have to.
So much pain.
Is that it?
Closer.
Ever so closer.
Running.
Blinding.
No more pain.
Free.
