The kunai fell with a gentle thump as it embedded itself head first into the softened wood. Close behind that was a shower of blood that spewed mercilessly across the already stained surface. Fresh blood mixing with the old.

His best friend's blood mixing with his parents.

Sasuke stood not too far from where the pool was growing. His hand was gripped around his own kunai, teeth bared, Sharingan blazing, and curse mark activated.

He growled. "You're an idiot, you know that?"

There was no response.

Sasuke raised his weapon slowly and took a step towards the heap in the center of the room. "You are a fucking idiot, you know that?" Another step, another tremble. "Did you really think you could stop me?" He paused right over his victim and glared down. "You really are a fool, Naruto."

Naruto's lifeless body gave no response to Sasuke's banter. It just lay bleeding and broken.

The kunai dropped out of the Uchiha's hands and rolled a few feet away.

"Damnit," Sasuke lowered his face and glared at his reflection in the blood. "I—I didn't want this. I didn't want any of this!" He kicked the body, which easily gave way to his force. "You moron! I didn't want to kill you! I wanted you to leave me the fuck alone!" Kick. "I want to leave!" Another kick. "I wanted to get stronger, get more power!" Kick. "I wanted to kill my fucking brother!"

A weaker kick was followed by more kicks in which his effort declined, until finally, he was glaring down with tears in his eyes. "I didn't want to kill you, but—I had to. You were trying to stop me—"

Stop me from making the worst mistake in my life.

He reached up and brushed a blood covered hand down his face, knocking off his hitai-ate. He peered down at it through his fingers but didn't pick it up immediately.

Staring back at him in the reflection on the metal was a broken boy covered in his best friend's blood. The metal itself was broken too—a single scratch imbedded in it from a previous battle in The Valley of the End in which Naruto had before attempted to stop him from giving in to his obsession with avenging his clan.

Sasuke stepped back. It was too late. He couldn't go back. The only thing he could've gone back to was Naruto, but now he is dead.

Dead because of obsession.

It's too late to change the course. The fate has been sealed.
