Elliot slammed the car door and ran up the steps to a dorm building at NYU. He buzzed her room and she answered, "Yes?"
"Katie it's Dad," Elliot said.
"I'll be right down."
Elliot sat on the steps and waited for his nineteen year old daughter.
"What's up, Daddy?" Kathleen asked when she got downstairs. Elliot stood.
"I just wanted to see you. To tell you I love you," he explained, pulling her to his chest.
Kathleen reached up and wrapped her arms around Elliot's neck.
"She was my age, wasn't she?" she asked softly.
"Yep. Blonde and blue-eyed," Elliot replied, stroking his middle daughter's hair.
"Daddy. I love you. You know I'm okay. Go see Liv. You know she'll understand how this affects you better than we can."
Elliot pulled back from her embrace. "I know it's hard for you, Princess. Thanks for always humoring your old man," he said with a smile.
"No problem, Pop. I love you," Kathleen kissed his stubbled cheek. She turned and headed inside. She worried about her dad when he got like this; the last three victims he'd had had been the ages of her and her two sisters. Her dad had always had more trouble with those cases.
When Kathleen got back to her room, she picked up her cell phone and sent a quick text message:
To: Liv
DAD WAS HERE. SENT HIM YOUR WAY.
Kathleen pushed "send" and the phone dinged a few seconds later indicating that Olivia had texted her back.
From: Liv
UPSET?
Kathleen hit reply and quickly typed out:
LIL BIT. NEEDS SAVING. LOVE YOU.
And hit send.
The phone dinged once more.
THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP. LOVE YOU 2 KIDDO.
Every now and then
I get a little lost
The strings all get tangled
The wires all get crossed
Every now and then
I'm right up on the edge
Danglin' my toes out over the ledge
I just thank God you're here
Elliot slammed his car door and ran up the steps for the second time that night, this time to an apartment building in Queens. She was at the door waiting when he got there and she ushered him inside.
"Katie call you?" he asked.
"Text," Olivia smiled.
"I hate technology," Elliot complained.
Olivia wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her forehead against his chest.
"Are you upset about today?" she asked.
Elliot took her hand and led her to the couch. He sat down, his back against the arm and she settled between his legs, snuggled against his chest.
"I'm upset about this whole damn week. Isn't it a little weird that our last three vics were the same ages as the girls?" Elliot asked.
"Honey, we work special victims. It's a coincidence. But you know I'm always here when you need to talk. I love you, Elliot."
It's hard lovin' a man
Who's got a gypsy soul
I don't know how you do it
I'm not sure how you know
The perfect thing to say
To save me from myself
You're the angel that believes in me
Like nobody else
And I thank God you do
"Liv. I… I don't know what I would do without you some days. You're my angel, you know that, right?" Elliot asked.
"I know, Baby." Olivia stood and took his hand to lead him to the bedroom.
"Make me forget, Liv. Make me forget today. Make me forget it all."
When I'm a ship tossed around on the waves
Up on a high wire that's ready to break
When I've had just about all I can take
Baby, you
Baby you save me
Elliot pulled Olivia's naked body against his and kissed her bare shoulder. "I love you, Olivia Stabler," he said.
Well I know I don't tell you nearly enough
I couldn't live one day without your love
'Cause when I'm a bullet shot out of a gun
When I'm a firecracker comin' undone
When I'm a fugitive ready to run
All wild-eyed and crazy
No matter where my reckless soul takes me
Baby you save me
