Ever since Ron had returned to their hunt he seemed more mature and caring in Harry's eyes. It had taken Hermione a couple of days to forgive him completely, but now she seemed to be in a cheery mood all the time. Ron had been so thrilled when Hermione had forgiven him that he had taken it upon himself to be extra helpful and never complained.
Ron's mood had changed especially towards Hermione. Whenever Harry saw them he would always be standing close by her as if he was ready to protect her if a deatheater were to enter the tent at any moment. He would also take longer watches allowing Hermione to sleep longer. When she did convince him she needed to take her watch he would force her to wear multiple jumpers, some of which included his. Even then he would watch her from inside the tent or come outside and sit with her.
Hermione was a strong women who most of the time hides her emotions and fears but she would occasionally break down and just stand in the kitchen staring at the wall and allowing a few tears to fall out of her eyes. Ron would notice this and come in and pull her into his arms and stroke her hair lovingly, but say nothing for he was quite aware why she was upset. After a break down Hermione would be stressed for the next couple days. She would sit at the kitchen table looking at a book she had read who knows how many times with her shoulders hunched and a pained expression on her face. She would sit like this until Harry and Ron would come in and Ron would sit down beside her and massage her shoulders gently which made the pained expression turn into a look more of comfort. Anytime she looked pained or upset, Ron was always there to rub her back, or hold her because he could not stand when she was in pain or upset.
Ron offered to make dinner often obviously feeling bad that he had many good meals while he was at the shell cottage. After dinner Hermione and Ron would do the dishes together. Harry had tried to help once but they just shooed him away. Harry never asked after that because he knew it was their alone time thing that just they liked to do. When they would finish they would join Harry in the sitting room and sit down on the couch together. Ron and Harry would sometimes, but were silent most of the time. Hermione would pick up her The Tales of Beedle and Bard and read it as she lent her back against Ron's shoulder. After about half an hour or so of silence, Hermione would fall asleep and that was usually their cue that it was Harry's turn to be on watch. Harry sometimes purposely took this watch so Ron could be with Hermione while she slept because he knew how worried Ron was to leave her side.
Ron would then pick Hermione up gently as not to wake her, and he would carry her to her cot and lay her down gently. He would then unlace her shoes and put them on the floor beside her cot. Ron would tuck her under her blankets and realize they were too thin for his liking, and pull his blankets over her tiny frame. She never awoke, even when Ron would sit on the floor by her bed and stroke her hair for sometimes as long as an hour. He liked to spend this time to marvel how beautiful and brave she was, and how she was staying sain during this never ending camping death trip. He would occasionally fix her blankets, and would eventually lean down and kiss her forehead twice becuase he loved her twice as much as everyone else, before getting up to go to his cot.
Ron knew he could sleep well even during these hard times as long as he knew his Hermione was safe and beside him.
