"Fucking shut up!!"
The whole room seemed to turn and stare at Mimi, as she sat in the loft, listening to the overly loud ticking of Mark and Roger's ancient alarm clock. Why did they even have an alarm clock. Roger never woke up on time, and never needed too, and Mark was always awake at seven thirty. No matter what. Why did the two of them have an alarm clock? Those were the thoughts running through her head as she sat in the uncomfortable silence.

The clock kept up its incessant ticking and Mimi, silencing herself, settled for glaring at the obtrusive object. The six other occupants of the large room faded out of her mind as her mind centered on the clock. She hated it, really. It was distracting her from what was going on… wait… why did that make her hate it? Distraction was a good thing… wasn't it?

Collins was crying softly in the corner of the room. Normally he was the rock, the one person in the group who always seemed to be calm and goodhearted… well no. That was Angel, but Angel wasn't here anymore, which was precisely why Collins was crying softly in the corner of the room. Angel… Angel was gone, and the thought took over Mimi's mind. Pictures of the drag queen filled her head as she curled up in one corner of the ratty old couch, watching the other occupants of the loft in various states of grief. Most of them were quiet… disbelieving. WELL OF COURSE THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE IT!! Angel was dead!! Dead, Dead, Dead! Nothing could change that. As the images in Mimi's mind came faster and faster, and in more and more detail, she longed for the steady, controlled, reliable tick of the alarm clock.

There it was.

Mimi took herself out of the world for a moment, closing her eyes, not daring to look at the loft, at its occupants, or at the blue nail polish on her fingernails… the blue nail polish she had painted onto Angel's fingernails only a few days before. She closed her eyes and welcomed the blackness, and the steady, reliable, everlasting, controlled.
