Echo: chapter 1:

A deafening shatter came across the maple oak window shutters as the villagers slammed there cottage entries. They have been fearful of the dark since I could remember. It was culture, tradition. Every night the towns people would lock their windows and their doors. They were afraid of the wolves. The entire mafia of them. Even when they were peaceful. The towns people never calmed. I began to seal the windows when I heard my big brother Japs shout. I turned roughly and pulled the curtain aside to his room. His palm bled. The metal goblet Japs so frequently used was crimson the thick red water ran down the goblet. The jagged frame of the cup had buried through his love line.

"It's only a gentile wound." I attempted to calm his breath.

"They will smell my blood." He whispered as he shook.

I got my needle and my thread and stitched up Japs's wound like a rag doll. I punctured my needle through his skin and began to sew. His blood trickled along my wrist. I lifted my fingers and took a taste. Then brought my fingers back down and tied off the thread. I leaned my head forward to ever so tenderly run my tongue across his slice to cleanse it. A few moments later Braxton ran in, so fast it was as if he were chasing his feet. I was perplexed he was out at this hour. Braxton was my fiancé because all I had left was my grandmother willow and my big brother Japs.

My mother had died in a wolf attack 7 years ago, and my father died at the time the villagers went away 2 years ago to find one of the wolves, many others came back but many others did not. He was one of the others who didn't make it back; tough I never shed a tear for him I was by no means attached to him.

I was forced to get married 2 years early due to not having reliable revenue .Japs was 18 and not however married though he was betrothed to Wendy. The towns whore.

Braxton was 17 and I was 16. We are put to get married within three months. I did not fancy the thought of marrying him. Not because it was a cliché act of rebellion but due to the pure fact that he leaves scars. At first he was charming then gradually he began to be more and more comfortable hitting me, and more and more comfortable with murder. I had only known three of the many people he has killed. He had his reasons but not one of them superior enough for taking a life.

"Why are you here?" I said trying to be as impolite as possible.

"I heard the yell and I was near so I decided to check to see what happened." He replied smoothly though I knew he was lying.

I knew what Braxton was. I knew what everyone was and everything about them. I was the "little girl" they all spoke of the "seer" that knew the secrets of all. I knew that Valerie wasn't the witch. I knew that her father was the wolf and that he bit peter, but I never said anything. Never told anyone that I hide in the dark and watch the wolves plan. If the town's people found out what I knew they would lynch me, and if the wolves found out they would execute me as well. Even despite the fact that Japs was one of them.
