Hi, it's me, musicalgenius yet again. I seem to be in a story writing mood these days. Unlike the story I just posted (Shadows of the Past), this one is a one shot. Again, written for Naruto.
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or any of its characters, or the song Listen to the Rain.
Listen to the Rain
It was all around her. It was all she could hear. It pounded outside of her room, and inside her body and mind as well. It completely consumed her and she became part of it. The rain. The soft pitter-patter of it as if fell down from the sky into the streets of the village below, mingling into the paths and history of the people that walk on it every day. As she looked at the window, she could see the rivulets of the rain coming down, forming images and designs that would disappear quickly as they appeared. It was something that had always fascinated her, the fact that these designs could come and go so quickly. Sometimes, she compared the lives to the people around her to these rain designs. Some people would quickly forget who they considered their best friends when they were toddlers. Some people would quickly forget their first loves, or their first teacher. But that is not Sakura's case. When she meets, she remembers. When she falls in love, she falls in love. She is not a flighty person in that sense.
After quite a bit of time spent looking at the rain, Sakura turned back to face the man lying on the bed. Uchiha Sasuke was sprawled on the sheets, clutching a pillow to his chest as if it is a lifeline. His face was free of any tension, free of any of the hatred and stress that he shows during the day.
Sakura walks towards the bed, to then kneel down beside it. She slowly reaches out and gently touches his soft black hair. She curls it around her finger and then lets it go to fall into place. Sakura places her hand on his face, feeling the smoothness and coldness of it. She brings her hand down until it rests upon his pulse. She keeps it there for quite a while, feeling his life force beat and beat.
With a sigh, Sakura rises and walks back to the window. Outside, the rain is still falling down with carefree whispers, not knowing the hardships that may lie ahead. With yet another sigh, Sakura walks quietly to the door, gets her coat and walks out.
In the streets, the rain is even quieter. Sakura raises her head to the weeping skies, and feels the rain pour down her cheeks, hiding her tears. The salt and pure water trails mingling as one, like a pair of teenage lovers not caring about differences or prejudices. Sakura did not want to cry inside; Sasuke was living through hard times without having to listen to her.
She stood there for what seems like hours, while the rain was pounding into her skin, as if she had two heartbeats. The rain never did let up, and neither did her tears.
As suddenly as life springs out something at you, Sakura felt a pair of warm arms encircle her, and a warm breath hitting the back of her neck. At that precise moment, every fear that Sakura had, every tear, every amount of sadness simply disappeared. All that mattered was Sasuke behind her, holding her. At that moment, she knew that he wouldn't care if she bothered him with her problems, as they loved each other and they shared each others problems. So she leaned back into those warm arms, closed her eyes and let a smile drift over her lips.
They stayed like that until the sun broke out of the clouds and all of the rain clouds disappeared. They stood there, faces upturned to the sun, letting it illuminated their faces and highlight all of the emotions, love being the predominant one. They were able to listen to the rain, and came out with a better understanding of each other.
For anybody waiting for the first chapter of Shadows of the Past, it will be coming out as soon as I can.
