Discalimer: These characters aren't mine.

A/N: Originally for the HP ficathon, 7/15, for the prompt 'letters.'

Summary: Oliver forgot his and Katie's anniversary… again.

Happy Anniversary (Sort of)

It was their anniversary, and Oliver had forgotten again. It was bad enough that she wouldn't get to see him, couldn't he at least send an owl? A letter, that's all she asked for. No jewelry, no chocolate (though chocolate did sound rather nice at the moment), nothing expensive or romantic. Just a letter. And did she get one? No.

So, she decided to be miserable all night, and had pulled out all of the letters from Oliver she had saved over the years. Some dated back to when she was still in Hogwarts, others were more recent.

Katie had her job in the Department of Magical Games and Sports at the Ministry, so she had to stay in London; and Oliver was keeper of Puddlemere United, so he was always travelling. It seemed that most of their relationship existed in the form of letters. Though they tried, they just couldn't see very much of each other.

But not one of those letters remembered important days until after they had occurred. How many forgotten birthdays and anniversaries was she willing to forgive, exactly?

The answer, of course, was countless. She loved Oliver, despite his faults.

'This can't be a real relationship,' Katie thought. She pushed the pile of letters aside and lay her head dejectedly on the table. 'I never see Oliver! Sometimes it seems like Quidditch is more important to him than I am!'

Katie didn't know how long she lay there before she heard the doorbell ring. She sighed and forced herself up from the table. She shuffled across the apartment, wondering who would dare to interrupt her lovely night of self-pity.

She opened the door with a cross retort ready on her lips, but she bit back the words when she saw who was standing there.

Oliver. With roses.

"Sorry, Katie, it seems I've lost my key," he said sheepishly, in that adorable Scottish accent.

Katie didn't even bother to reply, she just threw her arms around him, nearly knocking the flowers from his hands.

"I take it you're glad to see me," Oliver said.

"I thought you'd forgotten," Katie said.

"How could I forget my Katie's birthday?" Oliver asked, hugging her back.

Katie sighed.

"What?" Oliver asked.

"It's… never mind. You're close enough." She took the roses and went into the kitchen to put them in water, leaving a rather confused Oliver standing in the doorway.
