Rated K for Kiddie Friendly!
Had this sitting in my computer for about a year or so. Finally decided to publish this quick little, incoherent little drabble (instead of studying for a quiz).
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own LoK and am merely using the characters for entertainment.
Bumi knows how hard it is to not be the apple of their father's eye. To be watched with poorly concealed disappointment for failed attempts to air bend.
He knows how hard it is to watch their father sigh heavily with a look of defeat, then feign cheer upon seeing the easy fluidity with which she masters the water whip. Bumi knows better; she doesn't.
He knows how hard it is to watch their father burst with elation upon realization that their newborn baby brother is indeed an air bender. The second in the nation and the one who will be tasked with repopulating the world with air benders.
He knows how hard it is to watch their father shower his youngest son with praises and laud and cater to his every whim. Spend every waking moment training him, teaching him, telling him how important he is to the world.
"You're almost as important as the Avatar, Tenzin!" he says with dazzling excitement.
Bumi has felt the brunt of the pain of being a major letdown to their father all his life, so he will make sure Kya never has to.
If she wants a piggyback ride, then by golly, he'll give her one.
If she wants to play cops and robbers, by golly, he'll play the robber just so she can tie him up with a water rope and splash him.
If she wants to find the Wizard of Oz, by golly, he would follow the yellow brick road with her all the way there.
And if Kya wants to go to Neverland, so help him, Bumi would hop, skip, and jump all the way across Crocodile Creek just to make her happy.
So that she'll always keep her smile.
So that she'll never feel like a disappointment.
