A Blonde entered the choir room after school hours, it wasn't a glee club day, but this wasn't the first time she'd had a Brunette waiting in there for her.
Just like last time, she wasn't sure what the other girl wanted. But she trusted her completely.
…
"You know I'll always love you the most."
"I love you too."
They broke their embrace and Santana stood up to leave the choir room; she couldn't take being there any longer. As she descended the steps she felt a familiar hand grab her elbow, she sighed sadly and blinked back more tears.
"San, look at me." Brittany sniffled as she tugged pleadingly at the girl's elbow. "Don't do this, I'm fine."
Santana turned around and made furtive eye contact with the taller girl, "Brittany, I can't do this anymore. I can't do this to you. I haven't been a good girlfriend to you; I want to give you the chance to be happy." Santana pulled her arm out of Brittany's grasp and broke eye contact with her.
"Santana I'm fine. I mean sure I miss you, and I don't feel like anyone understands me, but you're my girlfriend. I'm supposed to miss you, and you're the only one who gets me, but that's okay." She started rambling, "All I have to do is graduate this year, and then we can be together and everything will be fine. I promise I won't screw up this-" Santana cut her off, and she let out a defeated sigh.
"Britt, I might wake up tomorrow and realize I've made the worst mistake of my life, but I need to give you the chance to be happy. If we're meant to be we'll find our way back to each other. " She sighed and pulled the Blonde in for a hug, "I'm going to miss you so much."
"Then don't let me go." Brittany was now openly sobbing.
"Britt." Santana didn't know what the right thing to do was anymore; she just wanted what was best for Brittany. Maybe this was all wrong.
The taller girl placed her forehead on the shorter girl's shoulder and tried to speak through broken sobs. "This isn't right…. This isn't right. It's not supposed to be like this." Her words were incomprehensible now, but somehow Santana still knew what she was trying to say. She always knew what Brittany was trying to say.
"I love you so much."
"I love you too."
….
Eventually each one left the choir room, first the Blonde, then the Brunette. They each went to their respective cars, and drove to their respective houses.
They'd never left alone before.
…
Santana cried herself to sleep.
She just wanted her to be happy.
…
Santana had thought that Brittany had been lonely with her away at college, but Brittany had never felt so alone before today.
