Chapter 1: Caught

Sonic the hedgehog sighed as he returned home to his small den in the woods of the Great Forest. He caught nothing that day, and as Sonic looked at his pitiful food storage, he saw only one small chunk of meat was there resting all by itself. Sonic knew that it would not last him for the night and knew that if he didn't find more food soon after, he would die of starvation.

Sonic continued to walk through the misty fields outside the Great Forest with the smell of the wild flowers and the sound of the crickets chirping, the blue hedgehog's stomach began to growl, begging him for something to eat. Sonic looked to the north, where the city of Soleanna was and thought of all the wonderful pastries, meats, breads and dinners that were being made, and the thoughts just made Sonic's stomach growl louder. When he got hungry enough and/or crazy enough, he would go there and steal from the butcher shop just to keep him full till the next time he could hunt, and although he knew that it was risky, that's why he had to be really hungry to steal from the humans that lived in Soleanna.

A deer bounded past Sonic as he ran, but he knew that he would be in the city in a matter of seconds. Sonic took the back roads to avoid being caught by a human and sentenced to either life in the dungeon or death by hanging. Sonic knew that a group of rogue hedgehogs killed the humans' queen five years ago and the humans now have a strong hate for hedgehogs.

Upon arrival at the butcher shop which was dark inside and he could see the delicious assortment of meats inside, Sonic looked for the hole that he would normally go through to get into the shop but when he found it, he was disappointed to find it had been filled.

"I have to go through the door," Sonic thought, dreading it the idea, because ever since the human queen's death, the humans' have increased the security around and inside the stores and houses all through out Soleanna.

Sonic walked over to the door in the back of the shop and began to pound on it. That's when the door came down with a 'thud' which set off the alarm in the shop. The alarm was so high pitched and loud, Sonic had to cover his ears to try and keep the sound out of his head, but failing miserably. Sonic quickly turned around to run off before he was caught, only to find that a human standing right in his path between him and freedom and was holding a large baseball bat and he instantly became frightened.

"The king will be pleased that I caught a hedgehog." the human smirked as he brought the bat down on Sonic's head knocking him unconscious. The human then picked up the hedgehog's limp body and made his way to the castle wondering what his reward was going to be for bringing in this hedgehog.
