So I was inspired by the Season 8 premier, so much emotion in a single episode, I was motivated to write this piece for my sister, Vanessa, hope you like it, darling :)
There was something so unnerving in the idea that Sam hadn't come to look for him, Sammy had given up, because of what?
'Was there a girl?' he heard himself ask.
Silence dwindled between the two brothers, Dean searched his brothers eyes for any reasoning, any hint of regret. There was none.
'There was a girl, and then there wasn't.' Sam's simple response astounded him.
Silence once again entombed them.
Dean had been to hell and back, he knew pain and suffering, he knew what it was like to hurt so bad that you wished for only death to consume you, he knew. So he couldn't quite understand what made his brother turn away from what was most important in this family business…
'I quit the game.' Sam said adding to the blow.
Deans mind nearly exploded, blow after blow of things he couldn't quite comprehend. He sat at the foot of the bed staring at the floor.
He would have come back; he would have searched heaven and hell for his kid brother. He wouldn't have given up, never. He ran his fingers through his hair, he couldn't contain the anger, no, sadness, yes it was definitely sadness. He stood up and made his way to the door.
'Where are you going?' Sam asked standing up too.
'I'm going to get a drink.' Dean muttered, he slammed the door on his way out.
What was there to say?
He felt like an arrogant ass, he gave up on the family business when Sammy was gone; he found Lisa and settled down with her. He was a good man, he protected those he cared for, he moved on and left the pain behind.
Now he was paying Sam out for doing the same. Only this wasn't the same. This time there was so much devastation still going on, there was darkness and there was pain. There was the prophet who needed their help. He needed Sam's help and he turned his back on him. For a girl and a dog.
He sat at the bar, beer after beer, glass after glass; still he couldn't drown out the nagging feeling which lurked in his gut.
He was angry and he was hurt, Sammy was the one whom he counted on the most. With his return from Purgatory and the loss of his friend Cass, he looked forward to nothing more than to have a drink with his brother and to finish what they started together. Now for the first time he felt completely alone and it terrified him.
Let me know what you lovelies think, it's not my usual style for those who're familiar with my work, if anyone would like any more Supernatural one shots let me know, I'm always open to suggestions!
