Once there was a little girl named Molly. One day she decided to go to the toy store. She saw a beautiful doll up on a high shelf. "Mr. Clerk? May I purchase this doll?" She asked. The clerk walked over and got down the doll. Molly reached for it. He pulled it away quickly. "Wait. Let me tell you something first. When you are done playing with her each day, put this doll on a high shelf away from knives." The clerk said. Molly nodded and handed him her coins. "Yes, and thank you so much!" The clerk went back over to his counter with a worried look on his face. Molly brought the doll home and played with her the rest of the day. Finally that night, she left it out on a chair at the kitchen table, where her Grandmother had been cutting bread and left the knife and cutting board out. Her Grandmother tucked Molly into bed, and then went to her bedroom. Molly soon fell asleep. But, she was awoken by the sound of, pit pat, pit pat, pit pat. And then she heard a high pitched voice singing "Molly, Molly, I'm at the bottom step, Molly, Molly, I'm at the top step. Molly, Molly, I'm at your Grandma's door, Molly, Molly, I'm on your Grandma's bed. Molly, Molly, I killed your Grandma." Molly shook her head as though she was just hearing things and went back to sleep. Then she awoke again. Pit pat, pit pat, pit pat. "Molly, Molly, I'm at the bottom step, Molly, Molly, I'm at the top step, Molly, Molly, I'm at your sister's door, Molly, Molly, I'm on your sister's bed, Molly, Molly, I killed your sister." Molly tried to put it all out of her mind again and went to sleep. Annie can't be dead, that's silly, she thought. But now she was waken again. Pit pat, pit pat, pit pat. "Molly, Molly, I'm at the bottom step, Molly, Molly, I'm at the top step, Molly, Molly, I'm at your brother's door, Molly, Molly, I'm on your brother's bed, Molly, Molly, I killed your brother." Molly was still convinced that her Grandma, her sister Annie, and her brother Tom, were alive. It's all just in her head she thought. She dived back under her covers and went to sleep. But then she heard it, awaking again. Pit pat, pit pat, pit pat. "Molly, Molly, I'm at the bottom step, Molly, Molly, I'm at the top step, Molly, Molly, I'm at your parents' door, Molly, Molly, I'm on your parents' bed, Molly, Molly, I killed your parents." Molly was scared now. She was less convinced and could barely fall back asleep. But now she heard it once more.
Pit pat, pit pat, pit pat. It was even louder now."Molly, Molly, I'm at the bottom step, There was a pause. Molly, Molly, I'm at the top step, And another pause. Molly, Molly, I'm at your door, And another pause. Molly, Molly, I'm on your bed." And Molly peeked up from under the covers. Sure enough, her doll was standing on her bed with a knife. Molly screeched and ran from the house. She was able to escape with a few scrapes. But legend has it every night on a crescent moon you can here, "Molly, Molly, I'm coming to get you."
