Hope you enjoy.

I do not own Firefly or any of the characters for that matter.

River sat up on the counter in the kitchen. She had the bottom of her dress in hand, pulling at loose threads. Her hair was a tangled mess that, as always, covered her face. Jayne watched her closely as she pulled at red and yellow threads from the fancy design. It was one of Inara's old dresses. She was willing to give it to River because she had received a new dress and River had very little clothes.

Jayne moved to his feet, leaving his beer behind at the table. River didn't look at him but started to twitch slightly, pulling harder on the strings. He took a few steps towards her and she finally looked up at him. Her eyes held confusion in them and panic but she didn't look away from Jayne.

"You know you're a real pain in the butt, you and your brother that is." He grumbled, now standing in front of River.

"..." She looked down, not looking into Jayne's eyes.

His eyes followed her line of vision and he saw her staring at her hands whilst they trembled, which did not surprise him, River could be awful twitchy sometimes.

"And you ain't too appealin." Jayne placed his hand under her chin, lifting her head so she was looking at him but River kept her eyes down.

"Hell, I could be with anyone I liked but I think I had one too many to drink tonight," he ran a finger through her hair, looking her up and down. "And there are some awful cute things about you..." Jayne placed his thumb at River's right eye, which she closed. "Like right here." he stated then leaned in and kissed her right eye. River frowned and grabbed his wrist, not tightly but held onto it.

He pulled away and this time, saw that she was actually looking him in the eyes. "This one too." he leaned in and kissed her left eye. River was trembling now, her lips started to quiver when Jayne pulled away this time. "Right here, can't forget right here" he whispered, leaning in. Jayne had kissed River on the lips. The sensation of they're lips touching made feelings run through River. She wasn't sure what to do, but she didn't want him to stop. She let go of his wrist and grabbed his shirt, holding onto it but not pulling him on her.

The door opened and Jayne pulled away. He walked away from River, who watched him leave her to go see who entered the kitchen. Kaylee smiled at them "Watcha y'all doin?" she asked, in her perky tone that made people happy. "Nothin'" Jayne replied, walking past her and to the table so he could finish his beer.

Kaylee looked over to River, who hopped off the counter. She walked up to Kaylee but didn't look her in the eyes. River wished to tell Kaylee how Jayne's beard tickled her skin when they kissed and how soft it was, even though he appeared to be such a brute but she wouldn't; these thoughts that made her smile would stay her most pleasant secret.

I hoped a fixed all the spellings mistakes but meh, I only glanced over it.
This was my very first fanfiction and my grammar has gotten much better over time so I decided to fix it.
