Luna was out in the garden, weeding her precious shrivelfigs, when she felt it.
"Ouch!" She cried out. She rested her hand gingerly on her swollen belly. "Rolf! Rolf, I do believe it's time. They're coming," Luna yelled out to her husband who was inside their home.
Rolf ran out, paint smeared on his clothes. He had been painting their kitchen to resemble a warm spring day. "Now? Like, right now?" He asked. He seemed to be in shock.
"Yes Rolf, like right now," Her voice was calm and that seemed to snap Rolf back into reality.
He sprinted into the house, grabbed his wand, and then dashed back outside to help his wife. Rolf had known this day was coming for a while now, but he was still surprised at the fact that later on this very day, he would be a father. To twins, no doubt.
"I'll be right back, I promise," He assured Luna, after making sure she was comfortable on the bed he had conjured up. He then Disapparated with a small pop.
One minute later, and he was back with a healer from one of the local wizarding hospitals. She was a woman of regular height, with short brown hair cropped closely near her face. She looked kind, and both Luna and Rolf seemed relieved at getting a young, youthful healer to help with this special occasion in their lives.
The woman introduced herself as Liana, then gave Luna a variety of potions to help numb pain, keep the blood loss at a minimum, and ensure that both children would be safe as they left the womb.
During the entire 9 hour procedure, Rolf stayed dutifully by his wife's side, only leaving to get food and send owls to update their family members on the progress.
Liana offered to cast a spell to speed along the birthing process, but both Luna and her husband declined, telling the midwife that they wanted it to be as safe and natural as possible for the babies.
And then, finally, the little ones were out, with no problems that would threaten their well-being. Two small boys were seeing the world for the first time, and their parents could not have been happier.
As Luna held the twins for the first time, she was slightly surprised to see a few tears sliding down her pale cheeks. "They're so… sweet," she said in a dreamy voice.
Rolf could not agree more. His eyes were quite misty too, especially once he held his sons.
"What will you name them?" Asked Liana. She rather felt like she was invading on a personal moment within this new family.
Luna and Rolf exchanged glances, then she announced that they be named Lysander and Lorcan Scamander. Her husband nodded in agreement.
The midwife smiled and conjured up two scrolls, then she put the twin's names on each certificate respectfully. With a poof, Liana sent them off to the Ministry of Magic, for records.
"Thank you for everything," Luna said to Liana. "It was very kind of you to stay the whole time."
"Just doing my job," the midwife replied, but her eyes made it clear that she was grateful for the acknowledgement.
Rolf stood up and ruffled through his pockets for spare change. Technically, he was supposed to pay the hospital, but he thought it nice to tip Liana for being so kind and helpful.
"Thank you so much," Liana said, scooping up the 2 Galleons, 6 Sickles, and 3 Knuts. With that she left with a distinct pop, to go back to her place of work.
The couple looked down at their two healthy, bouncing baby boys, and couldn't help but smiling.
