Elastic
Cook doesn't often think things through, not even afterwards, because he knows that however many times he messes up, they will always come back. Always.
JJ is the easiest. He follows Cook like a lost puppy, while Freddie will brood for a while and then go back to being his normal stick-in-the-mud self.
Even when Cook does consider the things he's done wrong, he doesn't regret them. Not sabotaging Karen, or shagging her. Not even telling Freddie he's not good enough, or kissing him. Because in the end, it doesn't affect him.
Just as long as they keep coming back.
