Discipline had never failed him before. This new case, where resting was prohibited, had come so soon on the heels of ninety-six hour crime-stopping marathon.

He needed to stay awake, but his body was failing him.

His discipline was failing him.

But Batman was not prepared to lose to this sub pare villain.

He.

Had.

To.

Keep.

Going.

A blinking light caught his attention; a coffee shop. Caffeine assisted those who needed to stay awake, but not him. He didn't like being dependant on anything, so Alfred only served coffee when others were around- for appearances. He had seen too many people who could Inot/I function in the mornings without their cup of Joe. He would not be one of them.

Batman strode into the coffee shop, (assertively) placed his money on the counter and ordered the biggest, most caffeinated substance they offered. He was already out the door when he took the first sip.

Which he promptly spit out.

This stuff was swill compared to Alfred's offerings.

For a moment, Batman was chagrinned; that had been a complete Bruce Wayne response.

Unacceptable.

He gulped down three swallows and got into his car to drive away.

He was awake now.
