Songfic to Run by Snow Patrol
I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done
After all the things he had witnessed in his long life; the betrayal of a friend, the loss of a brother, and the death of a sister, Albus Dumbledore was able to look at Harry Potter and smile because he had finally done something right in his life. As he fell from the tower and the life rushed out of him, his eyes closed and the peace he had so long been denied was finally his.
And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Away from here
At first Lupin was hesitant about teaching, not because he was a werewolf, but because he would have to see Harry. The embodiment of his two long dead friends in one so young almost made him falter, but when he looked into Lily's eyes in James' face, he realized that in some ways he had them back, and that was enough to get him through anything.
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear
Snippets of memory came back to Moody as he fell through the cold night air; rescuing Harry from the Dursley's, saving him from the death eaters at the ministry, the time he had shown him the picture of the old Order of the Phoenix. And he knew, that even though he was about to die, even as his body shattered on the unforgiving ground, that he would always be there, he would always be right beside him.
Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say
Cedric watched the jet of green light barrel towards him and flew through the air when it hit his body, then nothing. He waited and came back to see Harry battle Voldemort. Cedric wanted to scream for him to run, to do anything as long as he got away, but Harry refused to leave him behind and ran for the both of them.
To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do
Sirius laughed as he and Harry pushed back the death eaters, it was the first time he'd had a good fight in years. He watched proudly as Harry fought and soon leaped back into the fray. He taunted Bellatrix as curse after curse flew past, some missing him by inches. He was confident, so confident he was still laughing when the killing curse hit and the last thing he did before falling back into the veil was turn and look into Harry's eyes; and he died as he live…smiling.
Light up…
Slower slower we don't have time for that
All I want is to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads
He was so tired. Why did everything in life have to be so damn hard! Hadn't he given up enough? Sacrificed everything? And for what? He was still treated like less than dirt, an enigma, hated by both the dark and the light. All he wanted was to get out; there was nothing left for him anymore. And as he lay there, blood pooling on the floor, looking into the bright, green eyes of his beloved, he finally found his way home.
Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess
As Harry walked into the forest to meet Voldemort he thought of everyone who had died. The ones who had sacrificed their lives so others could live in a better world, one without fear. He turned the resurrection stone and some of his friends and family came to stand beside him. And in that moment it didn't matter if he was afraid, because he wasn't alone and he never would be again. With them at his side he walked into the clearing with his head held high, it was time to clean up the mess at long last.
