Tom sat in an empty seat, curious at to why Professor Dippet had called all the 5th years together. They'd been told to come to one of the lesser-used Charms classrooms- the smallest one big enough to hold all 100 of their year. Professor Dippet had yet to enter, but the other students were trying to puzzle out what was happening.

They didn't have long to wait though, before the Professor arrived. "You've probably all heard of the war in the muggle world," he began, pacing in front of the students, "but I'm terribly sorry to inform you all that it has now penetrated into our own world."

Tom simply stared at him. The wizards' world- it was supposed to be a refuge for him, a place where nothing bad could ever happen to him, a provider of pleasure to atone for the awful life awaiting him each summer at the orphanage. He hadn't even realized the professor had continued talking.

".and some say I shouldn't be telling you this- after all, Hogwarts is in Scotland, far from Grindelwald, and you children should be as carefree as possible with only your classes to worry about. But some of your families may be in danger. Grindelwald is not trying to kill all but one race, as his allay Hitler is, but he is attacking those whose beliefs are not as his. Those of you who follow the old ways- beware. Those who accept those not of full human parentage- beware. Though Grindelwald claims to oppose the dark, he is a darker man than any I have ever met."

"But sir- how did Grindelwald join with Hitler," a boy asked.

"His brother is one of Hitler's generals. He introduced the two, and-"

A Ravenclaw girl cut him off. "So he's a muggle born!"

"Correct. Now on to the measures you will learn for protection."

But Tom had stopped listening. These men- killing because others disagreed with him. Religion was not the cause of evil in the world- it was men like these. Muggles. Like his father, like the adults at the orphanage. Only these men had gone further. These base muggles were the root of evil- it lived in them. That was why they didn't have magic- only the good received it. Some, like Grindelwald were perverted by their muggle upbringing into evil. If you could only separate them from the muggles- everything would be perfect. No more beautiful, virtuous witches like his mother dying from mistreatment of horrible muggles like his father. No more children having to live in fear that their religion would cause them death. The wizard and muggle worlds had to be separated- by death, if they must. And those who would move to keep the muggle influence would find the same fate as the muggles.

Tom had always wanted a way to prove his devotion to his world, a way to separate himself from the man that had fathered him. Now he had a way- and it would not benefit just him, but all wizards and witches who had to live in this dangerous world. He would be Voldemort, and lead them on their Flight from Death. He would be their savoir.
