Author's Note: I would just like to leave a little disclaimer right here. A majority of this chapter has been taken from the movie New Moon. All things Twilight related obviously belongs to Stephanie Meyer. With that being said, enjoy. ^-^

"This is better." Jake said, "Now that you know about me." He looked at me, conflict stirring behind his chocolate, brown eyes.

"But," I prompted. He took a moment to think about what he wanted to say.

"You saw what happened to Emily. Sam got angry, lost it for a split second, and she was standing too close. He'll never be able to take that back. What if I got mad at you?" He looked away, "Sometimes I feel like I'm going to disappear."

"I won't let that happen." I said.

He gave a soft chuckle. "How?"

"I'll tell you all the time how special you are, how unbelievably kind and caring you are. There won't be a moment where you'll forget." I gave him a small smile and he looked at me. "You won't lose yourself. I won't let it happen." I whispered, and that was when I felt it, how much love I had for Jacob. He was there with me when I needed him the most and as I sat here in his warm embrace I felt comfortable and safe. There wasn't a doubt in my mind whether or not I would do the same for him. So, when he leaned in to kiss me I didn't pull away. I was, so, ready to embrace it.

My eyes closed and I leaned forward in burning anticipation for the moment our lips would meet. However, at the last second he pulled away. I didn't even think about it. I placed my hand on his cheek and gently guided his face back toward mine. There was a short moment when we paused to took at each other and then we kissed.

Man, was it wild. It was slow and gentle, almost sensual, and a charge of energy coursed through my body and for the first time since Edward left, I felt alive, grounded, and attentive to the present moment.

"I just wanted to thank you for everything." I whispered when we pulled apart. My breath was too labored to speak any louder and my lips still tingled with the electricity that just flowed through them. I brought my fingers to my lips, wondering if I'd be able to shock myself. I looked up at him, wondering if he felt the same thing. Jacob was staring down at me, a fire was lit behind his brown eyes and a knowing smile graced his lips. My heart was racing in my chest and I could feel my cheeks heat up as they turned bright red.

"Um, well, . . . thank you." I let out a breathy laugh at my own awkwardness.

"Sure, sure." He replied, still smiling and never breaking eye contact.

I felt around for the door handle and then pushed the door open, my heart rate still going about a mile a minute.

Suddenly, his demeanor changed. He sniffed the air and lunged forward to close my door,

"Wait!" he said, "There's a vampire."

"How do you know?" I asked, shocked by the sudden change in his mood and demeanor.

"I can smell it." He growled, "I'm getting you out of here." He began to get the car started.

"Oh, goodness," I sighed and looked around to see if I could notice any sign of Victoria nearby and that was when I saw it.

"Wait, that's Carlisle's car." I didn't even think about it, I hopped out of the car and headed for my home.

"Bella, stop! Wait! It's probably a trap!"

"I need to see them. I need answers, Jacob." He caught up to me and grabbed my arm.

"The treaty says we can't do anything unless we're on our territory. If you go in that house, I can't protect you." His eyes were intense and pleading with me not to go. I could almost feel how afraid he was for me.

"Jacob, I've half a mind to go with you right now. Please, believe me when I say that I want to."

"Then, let's go."

"But, I need answers. I need some form of closure, I just can't ignore that. And I'm going to need you to trust me when I say that they won't hurt me."

He shook his head, "Bella, you're about to cross a line, here."

"Then don't draw one." We stood there, glaring at each other for a while before he backed off.

"Fuck!" He turned around and slammed the car door shut. "You will be the end of me, woman!"

I turned away and ran for the house.

When I got inside and turned on the light and there she was right in front of me. I jumped in surprise and then took her in. She hadn't changed a bit, her short black hair, designer clothing, her animated aura, "How the hell are you still alive?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, shocked that that was the first thing she had to say to me.

"I had a vision, you jumped off of a cliff. Why would you try to kill yourself? What about Charlie? What about-"

"I didn't try to kill myself." I interjected. "I was cliff jumping, recreationally. It was . . . fun." I shrugged. She let out a small sigh of relief. "Let's get settled in. I have a lot of questions for you, too." I walked to the kitchen and gestured for her to sit down. After everything that happened today, my mind was racing a mile a minute, so I started to make some tea. Mostly, to keep myself from looking her in the eyes. "Did you tell him?" I asked. My voice was barely audible, but I knew she still heard me, so I didn't bother to repeat myself as I went through the motions of filling a teapot with water and bringing it to the stove to boil.

"No," she replied, "He only calls in once every few months. He said he wants to be alone." A heavy silence fell between us as I pulled out a cup. Finally, I looked up at her with tears beginning to form in my eyes.

Her face turned in disgust, "Bella, what is that god awful wet dog smell?" She asked.

"Oh, that's probably me. Or, Jacob. He's kind of a wolf . . ." I shrugged it off as if it was no big deal.

"Bella, those wolves are not good company to keep." Alice scolded.

"Speak for yourself." Jacob said, effectively startling me and Alice. " I had to see that you were safe." He said to me.

"I thought you couldn't protect me here?" I asked, my voice full of indignation.

"I guess I don't care." He rolled his eyes as he said that but then gave me a small smile. My heart swelled and I smiled back.

"Well, I'm not going to hurt her!" Alice said, reminding us that she was still there.

Jacob gave her a once-over, "No, you're just a harmless Cullen. I'm talking about the other bloodsucker who tried to kill Bella because of you."

"Victoria?" Alice asked me.

"Yeah, she's been around." I replied.

"I didn't see her." She said, "I didn't see you get pulled out of the water either." She, then addressed Jacob as she realized, "I can't see past you and your pack of mutts."

"Hey, there's no need for that." I moved to stand between them. "Him and his pack of 'mutts' were just about the only people in my corner when you guys left."

I crossed my arms and glared at her and she backed off, "I'm sorry, Bella," She whispered, "I will give you two some time alone."

"Wait, I still have some questions." I said.

"I'll just be right outside." She gave Jacob a weary glance and then left, closing the door behind her.

"Is he . . . ?" Jacob looked at me expectantly and then sighed when I stared back at him confused. "Are there others?" He asked, his voice was hardened, "How many Cullens are here and how long are they staying?"

"No," I replied, "It's just Alice." I sighed and turned away to finish making my tea.

"Well, are the rest coming back?" He pressed.

"No, not that I know of. Anything else?"

"That's it."

"Well, if that's all, then you should go run back to Sam." The kettle began to scream and I turned off the stove and let out a sigh of frustration.

"I'm sorry, Bella, I didn't mean to make you feel-"

"We don't have to keep doing this to each other." I interrupted, turning around to face him. The tears were now pouring a steady stream down my face.

"Yes, we do." He stated and closed the distance between us to caress my face. "Bella," He said softly, followed by something in Quileute before leaning in to kiss me for the second time that night. His soft, warm lips against mine melted my resolve and left me in a trance broken, only, by the shrill ring of the telephone.

Annoyed, he pulled away and answered it, "Swan residence." He announced in a sing-song tone. I reached for the phone and he stepped out of reach. "He's not here right now." he continued, "He's planning a-" I quickly snatched the phone out of his hand.

"Hello?" There was silence on the other end and then the line went dead. I looked at the telephone, confused, then brought it back up to my ear, "Hello?" I waited a second, shrugged, and then hung up the phone.

"Who was that?" I asked.

"I don't know, it almost sounded like. . ."

"Bella!" Alice exclaimed. She came running through the front door, "Bella, it's the Volturi. They know of your existence and they want you changed." The cup I'd been holding onto slipped out of my hand and dropped to the floor, shattering to pieces. The sound of porcine crashing against the tiled kitchen floor rung loudly in my ears.

Author's Note: Thanks for getting this far! I don't know if the Twilight fanfiction world is dead by now, but I've been having the urge to do things that used to make me happy when I was younger. As you might have guessed, writing fanfiction was one of them. I never truly had enough confidence in my abilities to write to follow through with my stories back then. However, now that I'm a bit older, I'd like to give it another try. So, again, thank you for reading! Please, be sure to leave a review and go ahead and follow this story to see what happens next!
