Title: Hands

Disclaimer: I. Don't. Own. Them. They are Bisco Hatori's.

Summary: Takes place in episode 15, the scene where the twins are in the room. Hikaru was scared to death over what had happened. Kaoru reassures him that he's fine.

For as long as he could remember, there has never been any other hand that held him, except for Hikaru's. Of course, his mother would carry him at times, but he would only cry, begging to be put back in the cradle where Hikaru was.

I'm really fine.

Though Kaoru knew that Hikaru already knew that as a fact, he couldn't help but say it as he felt the hand so much like his, wrap around his fingers protectively. He knew that Hikaru thought that he was at fault for leaving Kaoru alone, and Kaoru almost wanted to call him an idiot. But he didn't, because he doesn't want those hands to push him away as of yet.

Besides, we ended up not having to pull the "refreshing sibling fight" strategy.

Yeah…

He began to notice that his older brother was shaking more violently now.

Kaoru, I never would have forgiven myself if you got hurt…

Yes, he knew that but…

Would you have forgiven me if I let Haruhi get hurt?

He felt hands tighten around his own, not protectively, but reassuringly.

Of course I would… she's just a toy. Right?

Is she really? Then why are we here in the first place? You already have me, don't you?

But he didn't say it out loud. Instead, he placed his hand on top of Hikaru's trembling one, and smiled.

Yes, she is.

But he knew better. Only, there was something in those hands that held his so tightly, that told him that he was still loved.
