I couldn't let our dear Captain be alone. I read a story where Ianto was Wales before, but I felt like giving it my own spin... Hope you like it! :) (This totally wasn't written out of desperation as I have just watched Day 4 of Children of Earth...)

Occasionally their kind needed to escape the trials and tribulations of their lives so they would project themselves into the wombs of expecting mothers. These mothers would always be expecting miscarriages or stillbirths.

This particular projection was into one Ianto Jones.

Wales had chosen his time to escape.

Of course, countries are immortal and humans are not. You must be wondering how these projections work, yes?

Well you see, the country becomes mortal. They live, they die. Just like everyone else. Except, when they die, they don't actually die. When they die, they wake up. Depending on the circumstances of the death the time between death and waking can be anything from an hour to a year.

When the countries awaken, they regain their old memories and keep their new ones. In other words, they would still be the same person, just with a tonne more years behind them.

When Ianto Jones died in the arms of his lover the circumstances were further from the norm than they had ever been before. No country had become an alien hunter before. No country had fallen for an immortal (except one among themselves) before. No country had been this intimate with Captain Jack Harkness before. No country, that is, except Wales.

When Ianto Jones died, Wales was revived almost instantly. It was unprecedented.

He died. Jack knew he was dead. But an almighty gasp of air and a spluttered cough of "Jack?" changed things.

"Ianto?" Jack asked. "How?"

Ianto blinked. "I'm- I'm-" Wales stuttered. "I'm a country."

"You're a country?" Jack sounded confused. "What do you mean Ianto?"

"I'm Wales," He said.

"You're Wales?" Jack said. "Does that mean...?"

"Yes," Wales said. "I can't die." Jack laughed in relief. He leant down and kissed Ianto hard.

"So I've spent the last few centuries inside of you then?" Jack asked with a smirk.

"I've just come back from the dead Sir," Ianto said. "And you're making jokes about being inside me?"

"Well I wouldn't be me if I didn't do that," Jack said.

"I would've thought you'd've been a little more shocked Sir," Ianto said.

"A little more shocked?" Jack asked. "You died, you came back to life and then you told me you're Wales. All I'm running on now is shock." After a pause; "And would you drop that 'Sir' stuff, I think being a country overpowers being a captain."

"I love you Jack," Wales said.

"I love you too, Wales," Jack said, laughing silently.

"We should probably get out of here now," Ianto said.

"We should," Jack agreed. "Can you walk?"

"I think so," Wales said. "Arthur'll probably be outside by now."

"Arthur?" Jack asked.

"My brother," Ianto said. "England."

"How many of you are there?" Jack inquired as he helped the country to his feet.

"Far more than there should be," Ianto said. "One for every country and two for some. But that doesn't matter now, we'll both collapse again if we don't get out soon."

On the other side of the cameras Gwen was crying. She couldn't believe it. Ianto was alive!
