It was a gentle respite that they both had when Niklaus was gone from the castle. Oh, he knew her feelings towards his brother. Elijah saw those cautious glances that the human girl Katerina, she was called; gave his younger brother. Even before they had not gotten to know her, he knew that Klaus would never feel even the tiniest flicker of emotion for the poor girl. She was, and always would be, a means to an end to him.
She should have been a means to an end to him too. Katerina Petrova should have just been a tool for them to use to break his brother's curse, but she turned out to be so much more. If he had thought going to Klaus with these feelings would grant him any solace, he would have done so in a heartbeat. But Elijah knew his brother. He knew that it would only prompt him to kill the girl even faster than they already planned to.
So he kept his thoughts to himself.
"You seem troubled, m'lord." A gentle voice broke him out of his thoughts, as did the soft touch of a finger tip daintily tracing it's way down his bare chest. Elijah blinked and looked down at the same brown eyed beauty that he had just been occupying his mind with and smiled.
"I thought you would be sleeping, Katerina." He told her, ignoring her previous question that was cloaked as a statement. She pouted up at him and fluttered her lashes momentarily in indignation at the way he inferred she should rest. God, if his heart could stop beating then it would have just then. In that moment, Elijah wondered if his brother was truly as heartless as some believed. How could he plan to kill such an innocent creature of beauty? How could he take her from the world? How could Klaus take her from him?
Her gentle heartbeat reminded him of the mortality that she possessed. The life that would be drained from her eyes pained him in ways he hadn't felt in such a long time. "I suppose that if you refuse to heed my guidance and sleep, then we might as well make good of our time together then, yes?" He asked her, a hand trailing up her bare leg and making her giggle.
The dark thoughts could wait for morning when Niklaus came back. For now, he was going to enjoy the human beauty who's attention he had for the night.
Don't get me started on my Kalijah feelings. I had inspiration one night and this one shot/drabble came about. So I thought that I would post it. Obviously this is a flashback, and before Katherine ran away and became a vampire by Rose.
