Dissatisfied with the quality of the songs that were created by the few Harry Potter fan bands out there, I was inspired to compose a few of my own.

Can't Go Back

-

Dumbledore,

Why didn't you do more?

Why wasn't I informed

about this prophecy?

-

I know you're old and graying,

Your sanity is fraying

But can't you hear what I'm saying?

It's a matter of urgency.

-

Because he's dead now,

and I can't go back.

So pardon me if I don't cut you slack,

But I should be prepared by now:

You've had five years,

And I've had my whole life,

And you could have taught me how

To fight!

-

If I'm your savior and your chosen boy,

Why do you treat me like some toy--

Just a pawn inside your games?

What's the use of all this fame

if people keep…

dying.

-

Occlumency

didn't do squat for me;

now I'm all of sixteen,

and still not ready.

-

You knew Voldemort wasn't dead,

So how'd you get it in your head

that it'd be fine if you didn't shed

any light on this for me?

-

I'm so sick of being kept in dark,

Left relying on an old man's lark

For valuable information,

In these times of desperation,

When I just keep

trying…

-

…But trying's not enough,

not anymore.

-

Because he's dead now,

and I can't go back.

And nobody will cut me slack,

and all those for whom I care

are suddenly under attack…

-

I'm scared for them, why wasn't I

prepared?

(In case anyone didn't get it, when Harry says "he" is dead, he is referring to Sirius)

This song came to me just after I had finished watching the fifth Harry Potter movie. During the scene in which Harry blew up at Dumbledore in his office, I just began to ponder over Harry's emotions at the time, and this tune began to emerge. Though Harry's message was communicated through anger originally, this tune is mostly rather slow and rather sad. It's more of Harry's Lament than Harry's Angry Rant. The song is meant to be sung with a single guitar strumming harmony, or at least that's how it sounds in my head.

Any suggestions or recommended improvements will be duly considered.
