Just some thought.
I sat patiently in the living room while my dad came down the steps. I was Finch Arbor*, and my dad wanted to meet my new boyfriend for the first time. I have had only had friends that were guys, not boyfriends, and he had scared all of them away. He leaves his shotgun on the front porch, and sits scarily in the kitchen waiting. But, I was bound and determined that this was going to be different. I had prepared Thresh, and anyways, he was much tougher than any of my friends were. And my dad was in for a surprise too. He was expecting a puny little blonde boy who looked pretty much like me: small. But that's was the opposite of Thresh.
"Let's see who this boy is" my dad chuckled. I just smirked and looked nervous so he wouldn't suspect anything.
"Finch?" I heard Thresh yell from the entryway. "In here!" I called, almost jumping up and down with anticipation. Thresh walked into the kitchen and my dad almost fell off his chair. It was summer, so Thresh was just wearing a t-shirt and basketball shorts with some old sneakers like usual. But he's really tall, a good foot taller than me, and he's really muscular. "Hey Mr. Arbor, I'm Thresh" he stuck his hand out to my dad. "H-hello Thresh…." My dad shook it. "Sit down." Thresh and I took a seat. "Where do you live?" my dad asked. "A couple miles from town, with my grandmother, mom, and cousin Rue," he answered casually. "No dad?" my dad asked, gulping as I glared at him. What a horribly personal question to ask! But Thresh kept cool and answered, "He left my mom when I was young, Sir." My dad nodded, and changed the subject.
"You go to Panem High*?"
"Yes."
"You love my daughter?"
"Of course, Sir."
"You'll protect my daughter?"
"Always, Sir."
My dad had finished his questions a while later, and Thresh decided to wait for me by the door. "Nice boy you got yourself there, Finch" my dad said. I heard Thresh chuckle in the entryway. My dad followed me to the screen door, and Thresh got into his old pick-up. "Hop in!" he laughed. I hopped in shotgun and turned the radio up loud.
*Did not make up either of those names!
