The sequel nobody wanted! As always, the prologue will be a bit shorter but I hope you enjoy it regardless!

Warning: This is set two years after Resonance of Souls (ROS). As such, Yuma is 15 now, for example.

Reflection In The Darkness

Bad Beginnings

"Ryoga..."

His sister's voice sounded far away. The purplenet looked up from his bed and towards the door, where Rio was leaning against the doorframe, holding a phone to her right ear as she stared at him.

"Yuma wants to talk to you."

When she got no answer, the Ice Empress walked over and sat down on the edge of his bed, reaching to touch his left arm with a small frown gracing her otherwise schooled features.

"He is wondering why you haven't talked to him - or anyone else - lately. Ever since you returned that night with those bruises covering your body. Don't deny it, Ryoga." she cut across of him before he could even speak. "I've heard you wince while you were trying to wash away the pain."

Rio stood up and forced the phone into his free hand.

"If you won't tell me, tell him at least - he is worried, brother."

With that, the bluenette walked away, gritting her teeth when the door she closed behind herself was met with the pillow Ryoga had been holding onto so desperately merely some minutes ago. Whatever was wrong with her brother, she hoped Yuma would find out. For if not him, who could? The idiot only talked to her during breakfast with the other Emperors, whilst ignoring the five eating with them. It was so bad that even Vector was starting to worry, even if he did try to hide it under his persona of Shingetsu Rei.

"Please, Yuma... save my brother. Save Ryoga."

Before he drowned in whatever darkness had a hold on him now.

Somewhere in the outskirts of Heartland, a shadowy figure laughed in a silky manner as he slowly threaded smooth strings of a deep purple color.

The teen - for he didn't appear to be older than twenty years at most - looked smug, if not satisfied, as he gazed through the orb in front of him, down at the figure of Kamishiro Ryoga, the very person who not that long ago had destroyed his life and made him the outcast he was now. Well, the shadow thought as he wrapped his cloak around himself thighter, could such a thing even be called a 'person'?

Chuckling to himself, the figure lovingly stroke the orb.

"Soon, Ryoga... soon. Soon..."

"Oh... you are here."

Yuma forced a smile for Shark's sister as he walked past her, trying to return Alit and Gilag's cheerful greetings in the same manner. Knowing he had Vector, Durbe and Mizael's eyes on him, the youngest in their group skittled towards the leader's room and stood in front of it, debating on whatever he should knock or not. Deciding that Shark wouldn't mind if he just barged in, the Barian let himself in.

What he found took his breath away. For all the wrong reasons.

Nasch's room was trashed. For the lack of a better word. Books ripped apart and thrown around, bedsheets getting dirty on the floor, a pillow stopping him from even fully opening the door and Shark himself, breathing hard as he sat in the center of this crawling chaos. Whatever happened, it shook him pretty badly. So much that he didn't even notice Yuma walk up to him and sit down beside him.

He didn't even move when his brother in all but blood gave him a soundless hug.

AN: Yep! A sequel to Resonance of Souls (or ROS for short, this will be known as RITD) but this time, Shark and Yuma's roles are reversed. If you are curious to know what happened to Shark (for him to act like that) and who the figure is, well...

... you will have to stay tuned! :)
