This story takes place during the scene in "The Flesh Was Made Word" when David and Maddie are reading John Wicklow's poetry to the woman he loves. I have taken the liberty of changing some of the dialogue since I have not memorized the episode verbatim.
David is draped across the sofa in Maddie's office munching on a pretzel as he reads excerpts from John's poetry. Maddie is sitting across from him reading out loud John's poetry. She puts the papers down and looks across the room at David. "This is nice."
David: "What's nice?" he doesn't look up as he continues to munch and examine the papers he is holding up.
Maddie: "You. Me. Sitting here together. Reading John's love poetry. It's romantic"
David doesn't bother to answer he just continues to read. Maddie frowns and continues her reading.
David snickers and laughs as he reads John's words of love. Maddie looks up when she hears David laughing
"What's so funny?" Maddie asks him
David: "All of this is. Listen to this one. You are the sunbeam of my existence."
Maddie cuts him off "Say that again David." She prompts him
David "You are the sunbeam ..."
Maddie: "There! He is writing to YOU!"
David: "Writing to me? I don't even know him!"
Maddie: "No, David. Listen. Every other day of the week John writes she is...this she is that. But on Tuesdays he writes to YOU."
David: "I don't know him, I tell you!" David sits up.
Maddie: (throwing him a cross look) "No, David! "She crosses the room and sits on the sofa next to him. "It's like on Tuesdays he writes to the woman he loves. Every other day he writes about her. Get it."
David: (throws Maddie a puzzled look) "Sure alternate side of the week pronouns!"
Maddie: "Maybe he sees her on Tuesdays. We have to find out what he does differently on Tuesday's."
David: (standing up) "No, you have to find out. I'm going home."
Maddie: (pulling David back down on the sofa) "Come on a little longer. Don't you want to solve this case? Who is this woman that evokes so much passion in this man?"
Maddie: "Look at this entry David"
Both David and Maddie put their heads down to look at the document. David turns to say something to Maddie as she looks up. Their lips are inches apart. Maddie and David fall into a kiss. The stubble on his face, the smell of his cologne, the feel of his mouth devouring hers has Maddie's senses in a tailspin. How much does she love David? She missed this so much. She didn't realize how much she quite missed David until their lips touched. It was an explosion of sensation in just a kiss.
David pushed Maddie onto the sofa as the months of longing and passion bubble up in this one long awaited kiss. David's lost in the moment and begins to slowly undress Maddie. It has been so long. He can't control his body.
The ringing of the telephone brings David back to his senses. No, I won't go there again he tells himself. This is a mistake. He couldn't bear to hear her pact speech again. He just couldn't.
David gets up to answer the phone which happened to be a wrong number.
Maddie reaches her arms up to David who just shakes his head. Maddie sits up suddenly aware she is partially nude and covers tries to cover herself as she watches David zipping, buckling and redressing.
Maddie: What are you doing? Where are you going? We were just.." her words trail off as she sees the look in David's eyes. The look is a mixture of anger, hurt and amusement.
"Remember how you always use to tell me let's make a pact that what just happened never did? Well, let's make a pact saying that what didn't happen did happen and call it a day."
David slammed the door as he left leaving Maddie in the dark in more ways than one.
