Prologue 1782

Randal Giles walked into his home covered in blood. This wasn't as an odd occurrence as one might believe. After all he was a watcher, and not just any watcher, the watcher assigned to Felicia Davenport the Vampire Slayer. So fights, bruises, and blood were part of his daily life. He didn't have the powers possessed by slayer, he was simply a man with a little more training than most, so getting hurt was a normalcy that had been expected in the house. What was unexpected was that it wasn't Randal's blood soaking his jacket; it was Felicia's.

Felicia had been like a daughter to him these past 3 years. She had moved in with his family, and had been accepted fully by his wife Anne, and adored by his son William. How was he going to tell his family that Felicia was dead? How was he going to tell them that Felicia was dead because he hadn't been quick enough?

It was true if Randal hadn't let that minion get the best of him, Felicia wouldn't have had to save him, and then Angelus wouldn't have had such an easy kill. That vampire had been the bane of their existence for the last few months. Angelus played with them like they were mice caught in a trap for weeks, but in the end it had been a quick death for Felicia he had snapped her neck while she had been asking Randal if he was alright. But because Angelus was one of the worst vampires to ever live, he couldn't just let his slayer die in peace. Instead he pulls Felicia's body to him and exposed her neck, and before Randal could do anything he had sunk his teeth into the dead slayer and ripped her jugular out with his teeth.

"We'll see you around randy." Angelus's voice whispered right behind his ear when he had pulled Felicia's body on to his lap letting his tears fall freely, "not done breaking you yet."

Those words still echoed in Randal's head as he poured himself a generous glass of bourbon. Angelus was going to come after him and his family. They had to be ready, for anything that monster had in plan for them.

The funeral had been nice, as nice as a funeral could be at any rate. Randal, Anne and William had stood together holding each other as the casket was lowered into the ground. The amount of people at the funeral had surprised Anne, but when Randal explained that these were people and demons that Felicia had helped she understood.

Tears trailed down the little boys' face that would on da surely be considered beautiful, with his high cheekbones and bright blue eyes. William had not stopped crying since he was told the news. It broke his parents' heart to see him so upset, but in the line of work they were in William would have to become accustomed to it.

"Father?" The boys' small voice sounded drawing his father's attention from the lowering casket, "We can't let this happen again. We have to protect them."

The fathers heart clenched as he replied, "Yes we do son."

"You'll train me won't you? To be a watcher just like you, so I can help the slayers?" Williams's big blue eyes looked up into his father brown ones with pure innocence. The sorrow almost brought Randal to his knees. But the other emotion in his son's eyes filled him with pride; Determination.

"Yes son. I will train you." A smile spread across the boy's face for a moment before turning back to Felicia's grave. But Randal didn't look back right away instead he watched his son with pride and made a silent pledge to make him the best watcher he could.

"You think his will help?" The man asked watching the changes in time unfold, "How will keeping his father alive change the time stream?"

"Well the boy won't become one of the most feared killers in history for one! This will change everything in time." The woman smiled at her own work, then glared at her brother, "Of course you always look for the immediate payoff. But in time this will save the world you tried to destroy."

"I did not try to destroy –"

"No but your impatience almost did!" The woman glared at him with fury, "The powers gave you a chance and your timeline ended up with all magic being taken from the world."

"If Whistler hadn't intervened it would have been different." He man tried to defend himself, but in the end he knew he had failed. The slayer line had been destroyed, magic was gone and the secrets about demons and the mystical world had been brought to the attention of humans.

"Well I will not fail where you did brother."

"Is that so?" resentment lined the higher beings voice, "As far as I can see your just trying to ensure that the love story ends happily ever after."

"Have you learned nothing from watching your own future crumble?" The woman snapped, but a smile found its way on to her face as she watched the new future unfold. "Love is what she needed most."

Well what do you think so far?
