Kit had overheard Derek and Simon talking about math. When Simon agreed to let Derek search him algebra, kit hurried to find that old camera had had put into storage when they moved. This is something he couldn't miss.
By the time he found the camera, the two elementary schoolers were ten minutes into training.
"So "X" is..?" Derek asked Simon.
"5?" Simon said unsure.
"No. It's 17." Derek sighed. "Let's try again. 2x+5=7. So first we..."
"Subtract 5 from 7."
"Correct. So now, what do we do?"
"Divide both numbers by 2?"
"Yes. So "X" is...?"
"17!"
"17? How'd you get 17?"
"You said "X" is 17."
"That was the other problem, Simon."
"You mean "X" is different in every problem?"
"Yes, Simon."
"Then how am I suppose to know what "X" is!"
"...Never mind.." Derek got up and left the room.
