First Love

''Erik! Please, come back here!''

Erik Lehnsherr turned round at the end of a brilliant white corridor to face his closest friend.

'Charles... You know I won't. Why do you bother?' he chuckled.

Charles-Xavier, who'd be called 'Professor X' in a near future, was looking at him with such teary eyes that anyone passing by would have understood with a glance that the lad was trying to keep his best friend from leaving with only the mere force of strong and pleading emotions. Though, Erik didn't even flinch an inch. Of course, it had stirred his emotions by stirring his heart, but he made sure to not let it show. It had been difficult, but he had managed to not let his feelings take the best of him and appear as cold as a prison wall.

'Please, Erik... Don't! You can't leave! Not after all we've been through together!'

They exchanged a sad and meaningful look. Unfortunately and obviously, it got interrupted by the future Magneto's cynical reply.

'Yes, I can. And I will. Just keep watching me... One day, you'll see I was right.'

'No. I shall never see it your way. I'm sorry, Erik.'

The someone by the name of Erik Lehnsherr sneered openly.

'Of course, Charles, of course...'

All of a sudden, the young psychist's expression changed; it had become as neutral as it could seem. It looked as though he was concentrating.

'Haha... Are you trying to see in my mind?' taunted Erik. 'Looking for a bit of redemption, Charles, or are you instead longing to find some feelings left unsaid...?'

Charles-Xavier shook himself as though he meant to wake himself up from a nightmare, then he stared at his now unrecognizable friend with such round eyes and a shocked expression.

'Why are you even doing that...? To us...? Are you that insensitive? I know you're angry against mankind and I understand the reason why... But why do you go on ahead doing this to the both of us?'

'Because I have no other choice...'

And he turned round, and began heading towards the exit. He didn't even turn back as he went through the whole corridor; he didn't want to even though it hurt him inside to do so.

'Sorry, Charles... I love you but I must go. I'll miss you.' thought Erik intensively, hoping the one who had shared almost everything up to this point with him would read these thoughts as he left this place.

'I'll miss you too, Erik...' murmured Charles, broken-hearted, as he watched the door close on the figure of the person he loved the most. Forever.

Because there was no going back and deep inside...he knew it. Even though he knew he wouldn't quit trying to get him back on the right track.

It was heartbreaking to go, but Erik had to do that in order to carry his plan out... Though his decision broke them both to pieces because they were each other's first love...
