Hi! This is from the Digi-Drabble Tag on Digimon Fanfiction Challenge, using the prompts tickle, shadow, and urban.
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon. Though a Trailmon would be nice...
Shadowlit Secret
"From restless thoughts, that,
like a deadly swarm
Of hornets arm'd, no sooner
found alone,
But rush upon me thronging."
-John Milton
Sometimes, Koji wondered why he was the Warrior of Light. There was nothing bright about his outlook on life, or his general attitude. Something like Light would suit Takuya better...then again, nothing suited Takuya much better than Fire. Fire...well, that wasn't quite what Koji was either, though he did have his moments of temper.
Lightning? That was awfully close to Light, and he didn't have the sheer energy or creativity of JP. Wind? While Koji was a martial artist, he lacked the easy grace and light-heartedness of Zoe. Ice? Maybe that was it. He was the most cool-headed of the group, and Ice always seemed a strange element for little happy Tommy to have. If he had found the Spirit of Ice instead, would he be the Legendary Warrior of Ice? Did that mean that your personality didn't matter at all, and it was just a case of who found what first? It would explain a lot.
Those were his thoughts on the first part of their journey, back when the five of them had freshly left the urban jungle of Shibuya behind. They tickled the back of his mind, but he didn't put too much thought into it. What did it matter really, what element he wielded? As long as he had the power to get the job done.
Then he met Koichi. His twin brother. Not that they knew that Duskmon was another human like them at first. It was only after many painful battles and purification that he finally got to meet his long-lost brother for real. His element was darkness, even after the corruption was removed. Never had Koji thought an element was so sorely misplaced. Koichi was mild, shy, smiling even when he wanted to cry, which was often. Innocent, except for the guilt of the dark power pressed upon him. A shadow over an otherwise bright soul.
Bright...Koji knew then.
Koichi should have been Light. He...He himself was Darkness. But somehow, in some sick twist of fate, it had been inverted. Probably because of dark Cherubimon's meddling. Their roles could have been easily reversed. If Cherubimon hadn't found the Spirit of Darkness and forced it on Koichi, would Koji have found it instead? Would he have been the corrupted one, or would the Spirit have been pure to start with because it was supposed to be his?
He never told anyone this, even after the adventure. He never even spoke to Koichi about it. But they were twins. Sometimes they would share a look while Koji was thinking about it, a sad glance and a wan smile. And Koji would know he knew, without a word spoken. It was their shadow-lit secret.

So yeah, a random thought I had on Koichi and Koji. What do you think?
