Note It popped into my head and I had to write it oo;
Because he was the second son, his transgressions went unpunished. He was the holder of the family stone, not the heir to the dojo. He had good grades, was an athletic success, and an all around good and dutiful son. His parents had no need to watch him as closely as they watched his brother.
His parents were unaware of soft lips untouched by lipstick. They were blind to awkward fumbling and teasing touches. Their ignorance stretched through several odysseys into what could only be the family shame. He was fourteen when his treason began and eighteen when they caught them.
The on again and off again. The flirtation and hesitation ran through the second son's head as his parents stared him down. It was the night before his brother's wedding. They were supposed to be happy, bustling with the last of preparations.
He had nothing to say. There was nothing he could say. The second son was not a romantic. He was not someone who could passionately use words of a lover to defend his actions. Like when he was but a child, he listened quietly when his mother spoke. His father spoke next. They were quiet, but their voices and displeasure resonated until the entire dojo filled with an oppressive darkness.
Neither seemed to understand why he would stray so far. He was the second son, the one who they did not need to watch. He was a good boy, but he had brought about the family's shame. He must forsake the man in his bed. He must find someone like his brother did. He must forge yet another branch of their family as all who came before him did.
When he spoke, the second son's voice was quiet and humble, but his words were rebellious. "I will not."
