Dream Eater
Plop! Droplets of water invaded the world like little crystal clear soldiers. They fell upon the roofs, roads, and trees; the gray sky releasing one after the other. My body lay limp on the cold asphalt as my eyes continued to stare at the sky. Ice cold air settled against my skin, my ears catching the sound of crashing waves by the dock. It all seemed oh so very peaceful and tranquil. This couldn't be real. I sat myself up, looking down at the water seeping through my clothing. The world looked so…gray. It felt as if time stood still. Ignoring this strange sensation I began to make a thorough observation of my surroundings. A town I have never seen or heard of in my life lay before me. The crashing waves roared louder and dangerously behind me.
I began to walk down the street. The soft crunch of the snow beneath my feet was the only sound that broke the unnatural silence. The town was deserted. It seemed like no other living organism dwelled within any of the facilities of the town. I was alone. I leaned my body against the rail fence by the dock, overlooking the unknown. A cool, soft breeze rode by. I could not easily accept the fact that I was alone. I'm used to having people around even if I don't bother speaking to them. I released a sigh of impatience while processing the situation at hand. A thick layer of fog took over the land and sea. It was difficult to see a thing. I should at least rest in one of the apartments nearby. My hand firmly took hold of the railing as I made my way into town. A strong gust of wind knocked my body over, a rush of cold water suddenly overcoming my body.
Fear began to set in. Icy chills sank deep into my bones, salt seeping into any injuries I had once I had awoken, I was in too deep. I hear voices in the distance, but each growing fainter by the second. I opened my eyes to be met by pure darkness and quickly shut them hoping it would all go away. My lungs ached so I took in a sharp breath but quickly seized as I realized I had fallen into the ocean. My arms and legs moved frantically trying to get me to the surface to no avail. I felt that it was all over. I was never given the chance to say goodbye to my family or friends. I never achieved my dreams of traveling or becoming an illustrator. It can't just end like this, it can't. I was on the verge of losing consciousness, that is, until someone or something took hold of my hand and pulled me out of the water. I felt as if an immense weight was lifted off my shoulders. "Dude is she alive?" I could hear the waves crashing against the dock again, but I couldn't move a muscle. My entire body felt numb until I began to cough out all the water I had taken in. "Does that answer your question, genius?" Ugh. Everything hurt, I've only heard two people talk so far, one seemed to be a foot away or so, someone else held me firmly in their arms. "Not whelmed, dude. Not whelmed."
I was only able to open my eyes slightly, green eyes meeting mine. "Hmm, I guess we have to find somewhere to stay. She's alive, but I bet she's damn tired." I felt secure for the time being as I was carried into a building, the one carrying me set me on a bed. "KF, I think you should help her dry off while I try to locate the rest of the team." The younger one said as he left the room. "What? Dude! You can't just-" He was cut off by the closing door. The one with the green eyes stayed in the room, he groaned, a bit annoyed having to be left alone I bet. I guess I was given a second chance to live, I was lucky. I tried to sit up, but my arms were to weak and I just laid there falling asleep, letting exhaustion take over me. I couldn't help but smile, knowing I was not completely alone.
