Yay! This is my 28th fanfic and my 12th oneshot! Yay! And this is my only fanfic with just Code Geass characters in it so far! Yay! Tell me how you like it! It's based loosely on the song by Jane Zhang from the 2008 movie Painted Skin.

It was obvious to his dispirited soul that this world knew no limits when it came to playing with people's hearts. Though he had the geass, the color of his eyes, he could not stop reality from being so cruel.
"It isn't a lie."
That was the gust of wind that woke him from this dream. His mother was actually the bad guy who was working with his father, the man he had hated so. She had cared about neither Nunnally nor him—she only cared for herself.
He only laughed at himself for believing their lies. He should have known that their love was only full of mysteries. Something had bewitched their hearts long ago, their profiles fading into the darkest of nights that day. They had only planned for themselves, waiting for the fruit their plan would bear.
And now . . . even Nunnally had gone against him. He could only watch with eyes lonelier than the moonlight as his beloved sister was fed lies from their step-brother. Lelouch knew that, from that point on, he had to count on another to give his sister happiness. He could not do so anymore. Loving her had just become too much, almost as intangible as a single heartbeat. She couldn't understand him anymore, she couldn't see what he was doing. She didn't know how much he had sacrificed for her.
Lelouch, on the other hand, could fully understand why his sister now hated him so. She was his enemy now, but he would always remember her smile, for that was how he wanted to remember her by.
And as Suzaku, adorning on him the Zero disguise, impaled him, Lelouch's last thoughts went to the only one who had stayed by him for so long. C.C. was really the only one who had stayed by his side the whole time. Not even Suzaku himself stayed with him as long. It was only C.C. who continued to believe him. And it would be her who Lelouch would continue to live for because his heart would only shed for that green-haired witch.
