My final Valentine's fluff of the night. Ahhhh xD It's been a long night of writing, but I've gotten three published!

Jess brushed her fingertips across the keyboard; she was ahead of all her assignments and today was a dreadfully slow day. She'd rather be nearly anywhere—jury duty, or perhaps on trial herself for the waste of a perfectly good day. Chilly, but still nice.
She glanced down at her fingernails in distaste. All bitten up—part of the job description, she supposed, when the lives of so many were in her hands. One mistake, one slip, and everything could fall through.
Not to mention that it was Valentine's Day, and she was alone.
Again.
Okay, so she wasn't usually alone. One day in her eight years of dating, a few years ago when she was dumped literally the day before. The day after, she had a new boyfriend. But still, she hated it.
"Hey."
Oh, God.
She looked up, sternly keeping a blush under control as she smiled. "Oh, hi," she said, brushing a strand of hair from her eye. There he was, as casually gorgeous as always, looking down at her with a gentle smile.
"Busy day, huh?" he said sarcastically, and she laughed lightly.
"I'm starting to think I might just send out an alert to get people moving," she replied. She was surprised with her ability to speak; screaming through her mind was the phrase 'Ask me out ask me out ask me out ask me out ask me out—'
"Yeah…so, I was thinking, since it's pretty slow…we might sneak out early and catch a matinee?"
"Sure," Jess answered a bit too quickly, then mentally kicked herself. She shouldn't be so eager…even though she was. "Give me ten minutes and I can be out of here without Lester any the wiser."
Becker grinned. "Great. I'll see you in ten then, the back entrance?"
"Back entrance? Now it sounds like we're really sneaking out." Jess smiled joyfully, and turned back to her screen just in time to see an alert appear. The alarm sounded, and both looked to the ceiling in exasperation.
"All right," Jess murmured. "Guess…"
"We'll catch the late showing," Becker promised, patting her once on the shoulder before turning and bolting from the room, taking her heart with him.
A tiny sigh escaped her lips. She'd count the minutes…
