What Did You Think?
Gil Grissom was excited. Today was the day he took his son, Ryan, to the new Insect exhibit at the Science Center. Sara, his wife, was buckling Ryan into his car seat as Grissom slid into the driver's seat.
"Are you ready to go learn about all the different types of insects?" Grissom asked excitement clear in his voice.
"Yeah I am daddy, are we going to be there soon?" Ryan questioned wriggling impatiently in his car seat.
******5 min later******
"We're here!!" Grissom said excitedly.
Sara helped Ryan out of the car as Grissom stared wide-eyed at the sign for the exhibit. Once everyone was out of the car, they started towards the building. They walked through the doors into Grissom's heaven. There were petrified insects, informational videos, brochures, and even some live insects. Sara cringed slightly, all those years as a CSI and she still didn't like bugs. Grissom grabbed Ryan's hand and took off towards the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.
Sara approached just as Gil was finishing his speech.
"Unlike most cockroaches, these ones are wingless. They are also excellent climbers," Grissom finished smiling brightly.
Ryan just nodded as Grissom pulled him along through the next exhibits. Ryan learned all about Earwigs, Beetles, Caterpillars, and Bees.
"Ah Tarantula's, magnificent creatures," Grissom said admiring the monstrous beast that was trying to push open the lid of its container.
"Yeah magnificent…as long as it stays contained its fine," Sara said taking two precautionary steps back.
"Now Ryan did you know that Tarantula's are from the family Theraphosidae, and there are about 900 species?" Grissom asked.
Sara suppressed a giggle, like a four year old would know anything about a Tarantula besides its big, hairy, and ugly. Thankfully the Tarantulas were the last exhibit. Sara had been watching Ryan's reactions the entire day. They ranged from disgusted, to bored, then last but not least tired.
"Ready to go home Ryan," Sara asked taking his hand.
He just nodded and followed her out through the exit into the warm parking garage.
"Remember my Tarantula and Hissing Cockroaches honey?" Grissom asked reminiscing about his past "Pets".
"Ummhmm," Sara mumbled buckling Ryan into his seat and climbing into the passenger's seat.
"So Ryan what did you think about the Insect exhibit?" Grissom asked as he started the car.
"Bugs are gross," Ryan stated in a very matter-of-fact tone.
"That's my boy," Sara laughed at the look of utter disbelief plastered on her husband's face, as they pulled out of the garage.
